To unprotect Chessmaster 3000, you must have a exact duplicate of the originals (using CopyIIPc, Teledisk, etc), Diskcopy will not work. This patch was used on the following file: install.exe 48290 11-13-91 12:00a On your copied disk: 1) You need to change the attribute of install.exe. from Read-Only. Using MS-DOS 5.0 and assuming disk 1 of Chessmaster 3000 is in drive B: attrib b:install.exe -R 2) Do a search for the following bytes in install.exe: (Using Norton Editor, Debug, or your favorite editor) 91 05 40 E7 80 Replace with: 91 05 60 E7 80 3) Do a search for the following bytes in install.exe: 4C 8D 54 07 E2 Replace with: 4C 8D 74 07 E2 4) Change the attribute of install.exe back to Read-Only. attrib b:install.exe +R That's all. You can now install the game using this new disk. I believe the reason diskcopy does not work is because of the Volume Label. It is probably possible for someone to fix install so it doesn't look at the Volume, but I have spent too long on this already. If someone absolutely HAS to have that fixed, I can be reached on Rustie & Edie's BBS Mike Kohler
