19th Century Popular American Songs -amsg1.zip These songs were transcribed using MUSICATOR, and have been sequenced for the Casio CT-670. I have not included any dynamic control statements, as my equipment does not support that feature. Therefore I will leave to you to add this if you have equipment to support either velocity or Control 7 commands. The songs were transcribed from a publication by Dover Inc., New York entitled POPULAR SONGS OF NINETEENTH-CENTURY AMERICA, compiled by Richard Jackson. Not all songs were necessarily origianl American compositions, some were traditional melodies adapted from European sources. This is the first of three collections of 20 songs I hope to transcribe for this series. For the Music of Stephen Foster see Sfos1.zip and sfos2.zip in the midi library of CIS. HENRY ROWLEY BISHOP 18?? It may be of interest that the popular American song CARRY ME BACK TO OLD VIRGINNY was composed by James A. Bland one of American's early Black composers. Bland was a popular composer of songs for the Minstrial shows in the latter part of the 19th century. He also wrote OH, DEM GOLDEN SLIPPERS and IN THE EVENING BY THE MOONLIGHT which I have included in another collection in this series. Bland's song CARRY ME BACK TO OLD VIRGINNY was adopted with corrected words as the state song of Virginia in 1940. Enjoy, Larry Roberts, 71301,1145
