SWAPSCRN.EXE is a raw utility that has many posible uses.... originally made for bbs welcome screens, I found you can swap, gif, pcx, txt, bmp, you name it. All you have to do is copy your rotating files to *.1, *.2, *.3, ect So you should have some files like this in your directory SWAPSCRN.EXE (OUR'S) SWPSCRN.TXT (OUR'S) REG.TXT (OUR'S) SWAPSCRN.PIF (OUR'S) WINALSO.TXT (OUR'S) GIF.1 (YOUR'S) GIF.2 (YOUR'S) GIF.3 (YOUR'S) Then command line: SWAPSCRN TARGET.GIF GIF 1 3 Will make a file called TARGET.GIF And thats it.. Make a batch file and your flying. Any questions on making a batch file or editing your autoexec.bat, can be found in your DOS manual. ROTATING YOUR WALLPAPER IN WINDOWS. THIS WILL CHANGE YOUR DESKTOP IN WINDOWS EVERY TIME YOU BOOT UP. Copy several *.BMP's to BMP.1, BMP.2, BMP.3, ECT...until you feel you have enough. Put these BMP.* and SWAPSCRN.EXE in your WINDOWS DIRECTORY. Add this line to your Autoexec.bat, make sure paths are correct. C:\WINDOWS\SWAPSCRN DEFAULT.BMP BMP 1 3 Now leave Windows, reboot and go back into WINDOWS, goto CONTROL PANEL, click DESKTOP and change WALLPAPER to DEFAULT.BMP. And that's it. BUT ... Now if you want to get fancy. don't use the AUTOEXEC.BAT but go to your START UP GROUP And click NEW on the MENU BAR and open the SWAPSCRN.PIF. (should be included with SWAPSCRN.EXE and should be copied into your Windows directory) Use PIFEDIT .EXE to change amount of bmps and edit paths in the Swapscrn.pif. Now it will change every time you go into windows. Good luck, Tom Downs Co-Sysop C.R.S. BBS
