Zone Coordinator: Responsible for the overall operation of the network. Evaluates applications from new boards. Handles any problems that may arise to help ensure the smooth flow of mail. Chairs the Administrative Board and makes the final decision regarding any disputes. Seeks the advice of the Administrative Board when needed. Ultimately responsible for the implementation and enforcement of network rules and policies to ensure the overall quality of the net. Appoints the Associate Zone Coordinator and the Public Relations Manager. Approves all changes/additions to the Wcpak-xx.Zip information packet prior to distribution. Associate Zone Coordinator: Compiles a nodelist of all of the networks and independents in the region(s) and sends a copy of it to the Zone Coordinator whenever it changes. Entertains requests, approves, implements and appoints hosts for new conferences. Is a member of the Administrative Board and assists the Zone Coordinator with the overall administration of the network. Handles problems that arise within a conference that cannot be amicably resolved by the conference host. Consults with the Administrative Board and/or Zone Coordinator on those rare occasions when disciplinary action appears necessary to avoid compromising the overall quality of the net. Appoints Regional Coordinators and works closely with them to ensure the smooth flow of mail. Is appointed by and reports directly to the Zone Coordinator. Regional Coordinator: Appoints Network Coordinators and works with them to ensure the smooth transfer of mail. Carries all conferences and transfers at least once per day unless extraordinary technical problems prevent it. Should be familiar with several different types of networking technologies and software. Assigns network numbers to networks in the region and defines their boundaries. Assign node numbers to independant nodes and hubs in the region. Encourage independent nodes in the region to join existing networks in the region, or to form new ones. Ensures the smooth operation of networks within the region and assists with the implementation of new conferences. Make new nodelist files and Network Policies available to the network coordinators in their region. Appointed by and reports directly to the Associate Zone Coordinator. Public Relations Manager: Seeks out new boards and welcomes all new boards, users and SysOps to the network. Announces new conferences, encourages their promotion and fills Conference Host positions when they become available. Assists Conference Hosts in defining conference topics and all other duties. Assists the Zone Coordinator in maintaining the overall quality of the network by monitoring all message bases and ensures that conference hosts are managing their conferences in a manner that is consistent with network rules/policies. Handles problems that arise within a conference that cannot be amicably resolved by the conference host. Consults with the Administrative Board and/or Zone Coordinator on those rare occasions when disciplinary action appears necessary to avoid compromising the overall quality of the net. Assists the Zone Coordinator with the formulation and implementation of network rules/policies and answers any questions pertaining to network rules. Is a member of the Administrative Board and assists the Zone Coordinator with the overall administration of the network. Is appointed by and reports to the Zone Coordinator. Network Coordinator: Assigns node numbers to nodes in the network. Maintains the nodelist for the network and sends a copy of it to the Regional Coordinator whenever it changes. Make available to nodes in the network new nodelist files and new revisions of Network Policy Documents as they are received. Periodically check to make sure nodes are up to date on all info and conferences. Appointed by and reports to the Regional Coordinator. Conference Hosts: The main function of a conference host is to promote their conference by encouraging discussion and encouraging other boards to pick up the conference. Hosts should keep in mind that users are guests in their conference and should be treated accordingly. Hosts define appropriate topics of conversation for the conference and encourage threads to stay within the topic as defined by the conference description. Hosts should politely ask users to move off-topic threads to the appropriate conference. Occasional off- topic posts should not be a problem. Keep up to date with messages in their conferences. Make SysOps of boards not currently carrying your conference aware that it is available and ask that they carry it. Encourage user participation by occasionally posting conference descriptions in The User's Voice. Assists in maintaining the overall quality of the net by helping to ensure that the network rules/policies are complied with. Hosts are the first to handle a problem user or an unacceptable post by informing the offending user of the infraction in a polite and friendly way. Hosts are usually but not always the last word should a dispute arise since their main duty is to facilitate conversation. If the problem is not amicably resolved, the conference host will bring the problem to the attention of the Public Relations Manager or the Regional Coordinator. Administration Board: Acts in an advisory capacity to the Zone Coordinator and the net as a whole. Promotes the growth and quality of the network by offering new ideas and suggestions. Assists in the resolution of problems at the request of the Zone Coordinator.
