If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs differ on details. Some request registration while others require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue using the software to an updated program with printed manual. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For example, some authors require written permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their Shareware. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should find software that suits your needs and pocket book, whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy. And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the product, you don't pay for it. DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT Users of the JEANius Sports Card Inventory System must accept this disclaimer of warranty: "The JEANius Sports Card Inventory System is supplied as is. The author disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation, the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose. The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or consequential, which may result from the use of the JEANius Sports Card Inventory System." The JEANius Sports Card Inventory System is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of another system. The essence of "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer users with quality software without high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to continue to develop new products. Page 2 If you find this program useful and find that you are using the JEANius Sports Card Inventory System and continue to use this program after a reasonable trial period, you must make a registration payment of $39.95 to JEANius Software for each copy of the JEANius Software you desire. There is also a $5.00 shipping and handling fee per order. Each $39.95 fee will license one copy for use on any one computer at any one time. You must treat this software just like a book. An example is that this software may be used by any number of people and may be freely moved from one computer location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it being used at one location while it's being used at another. Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the same time. Commercial users of the JEANius Sports Card Inventory System must register and pay for their copies of the JEANius Sports Card Inventory System within 30 days of first use or their license is withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be made by contacting JEANius Software. Anyone distributing the JEANius Sports Card Inventory System for any kind of remuneration must first contact JEANius Software at the address below for authorization. This authorization will be automatically granted to distributors recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for shareware distributors, and such distributors may begin offering the JEANius Sports Card Inventory System immediately (However JEANius Software must still be advised so that the distributor can be kept up to date with the latest version of the JEANius Sports Card Inventory System.). You are encouraged to pass a copy of the JEANius Sports Card Inventory System along to your friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their copy if they find that they use it. All registered users will receive a copy of the latest version of the JEANius Sports Card Inventory System, and one data disk of choice. See the file datadisk.txt included on the distribution disk for a list of data and price update disks available. Registered users will also be entitled to purchase optional data disks. These data disks are not necessary for the programs use, however they are very convenient, as the user does not need to type in all of the player data. A data price subscription service is also offered to registered users. This will allow the user to have his/her sports card prices kept up to date on a monthly basis. All registered users of the JEANius Sports Card Inventory System are entitled to unlimited free support. JEANius Software Overview The JEANius Card Inventory System is a complete Sport Card Inventory and Value System. Using the Examine Card Sets option you track your sets. You can make sets from individual cards and split sets into individual cards. You can generate statistics on your complete inventory or on a particular card set. You can track cards which will never be included in a set by using the Examine Single Cards option. This means that you do not require a database for an entire set of cards if you only choose to have a single card from a set. For example you may have a 1952 Parkhurst card, and you know that you will never complete the set. Their are many reports available to you in the Report Menu option. You have reports which tell you which cards you require to complete a set, extra cards you have in any set, Price Guide listing, among others. You can print the reports to the screen, to a file, or to the printer. With the Dual Currency option you can enter your card values in one country's currency, and display them in another country's currency. This is extremely beneficial if you use a price guide for your card values. Enter the U.S.A. pricing found in the magazine and display those values in either U.S.A. or Canadian values. You can protect your card data by using the Password feature. Cards cannot be edited, deleted, or added without the correct password. The search feature is extremely powerful. You can search across all sets, all sets in a single sport, across a single set, or for the first matching card. You can restrict your searches to certain card suppliers and to certain years. Page 6 1. Hardware Configuration The JEANius software requires the following minimum configuration: - Any MS-DOS compatible computer system. - Minimum of 512 Kilobytes of memory. - Computer must contain a hard drive with a minimum of 4 1/2 megabytes of free storage. Once installed only 2 megabytes of storage are required. For optimum system performance your computer system should contain the above as well as the following: - EGA or VGA colour monitor - A 386 or 486 based system. - Printer. - Mouse 2. Software Installation The JEANius software comes on either 5 1/4" or 3 1/2" disks. The installation procedure is the same for either case. You will require a minimum of 4 1/2 megabytes of room on your hard drive in order to install the software. Once the JEANius system is installed you only require 2 megabytes to run the software. To install the JEANius software insert disk #1 into either your A: or B: disk drive. At the DOS prompt type the following, excluding quotes "a:install a: c:". You may replace the a: with b: if you are installing from your B: drive, and you may replace the c: with d: or any other letter which designates the hard drive you are installing the software to. You can start the software at any time by typing the following, excluding quotes "jeanius". The JEANius software requires that you start the JEANius software from the directory which contains the software. For your convenience a batch file called jeanius.bat was created for you and placed on the root of your hard drive. This will allow you to start the JEANius software very conveniently. Page 7 Disk number one of the JEANius software contains an Update file. This file contains several empty sets. If you would like to install these sets follow the instructions found in the Install Update section of this manual. Your config.sys file should have lines similar to the following. Make sure that the values are at least as high, if not higher than the values shown: buffers=20 files=40 Refer to your DOS manual for more information on changing these values. 3. Authorization The authorization screen only applies to the registered version of the JEANius software. The main purpose of the registration screen is to display your name and/or company as the registered user of the JEANius system. The Shareware version displays the name SHAREWARE in place of the user's name. This is the only difference between the registered and shareware versions of the JEANius Software. The first time you run the JEANius software you will see the Authorization screen. At this point you must enter a name and/or company. This will authorize your software to run and display your name as the registered user of the JEANius System. Once you have properly authorized your system you will note that your name and/or company will be displayed on the main screen. It is strongly recommended that you register your JEANius system by sending in the registration form. This will entitle you to all of the benefits stated in the DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT section of this manual, as well as allow us to keep you informed of any new revisions of the JEANius software. This software is constantly evolving to keep up with your requests. 4. JEANius Main Menu The JEANius Main Menu consists of six selections. These selections will be covered in detail under the appropriate sections of this manual. Page 8 4.1 Quick Set View The Quick Set View menu selection is an abbreviated view of your sets. You cannot edit any of the displayed information but you can quickly determine which card sets you currently have, and the number of these sets. You are first asked for a card category. The four common sport categories are shown. These are Baseball, Basketball, Football, and Hockey. There is also a Custom selection. Any cards which do not fall in the above categories may use this setting, such as Star Trek cards and Auto Racing cards. Once you have established a card category your sets will be displayed. The sets displayed have the category you selected above. After selecting the category you will be presented with a screen which contains the following information of each set: - The Issue Year - The Card Set Supplier - The Card Sets Name - The Country of Origin - The Lowest Card Number from this Set - The Highest Card Number from this Set - The Number of Sets on Hand - The Mint Value of Each Set Up to fifteen sets are displayed on each screen. If more sets are available you may see these by using the Cursor Up, Cursor Down, Page Up, and Page Down keys. From this screen you can enter the Price Guide screen by pressing the F2 key. 4.1.1 Price Guide Screen This screen is designed to display your card sets in a format which is very similar to the Price Guide magazines which are currently available. This screen displays all the Premium cards from your set. The card class, card number, card name, near mint value, and mint values are displayed. Indicator arrows are also displayed if the value of the card has risen or fallen from the initial value of the card. The indicator arrows can be displayed in one of three different styles, see the Utilities screen for the styles available. Page 9 The F8 key will allow you to toggle between two country's currency values. For example you may choose to enter card values in U.S.A. funds and display their values in Canadian values. To return to the Quick Set View screen press the Return button on the bottom of the screen. Once you have returned to the Quick Set View screen you can return to the Main Menu by pressing the ESCAPE key. 4.2 Examine Card Sets This section of the JEANius system is used to track your sets. If you are collecting cards in order to complete a set use this option. This option is also very useful if you plan to track card values for other purposes. For example you may be a retailer, or you may evaluate cards for insurance or appraisal purposes. If you never intend to complete a set, but would only like to track a few cards from a set it would be better to use the Examine Single Cards section of the JEANius software. When you select the Examine Card Sets option you will see the initial set screen. This screen is used to define a set name for your set, as well as to provide some set specific information. On the bottom of the screen you will notice a button bar. This bar has ten choices on it. They will be discussed in turn, as well as any other screen features which relate to them. All of these selections on the button bar can be selected by pressing the highlighted letter, using the tab key to move to that button and pressing the return key, or using a mouse. 4.2.1 F1-Key (Quick Key Help Guide) This key displays a Key Guide for all active keys which are not displayed on the button bar. 4.2.2 F5-Key (Additional Set Information) This option can be password protected. This would not allow the user to add or edit any card information without entering the correct password. This is set in the Utilities Screen. Page 10 If the words 'More Data' are displayed for the current set, this indicates that their is more data available. You may view and/or change this data by using the F5 option. Any amount of set specific information may be stored. 4.2.3 F6-Key (Update Set's Team Info) The F6 key permits you to update team information for the entire set. When you first select this option you are presented with a list of teams. One must be selected to continue. You will then enter the Update Set's Team Info screen. This screen displays the currently selected team on the top of the screen. You may enter team information for any card and any class of card. Initially the class field is empty, which indicates that you are working the regular cards from this set. Type in the card numbers from this set which belong to the currently displayed team. When you are finished with this team, you may press the 'T' key to select a new team. Continue entering card numbers, and selecting teams for all cards of this set. If you want to enter teams for your special cards such as Holograms, press the 'C' key to change the class of cards. Press the ESCAPE key to return to the main menu. 4.2.4 F7-Key (Update Set's Price Info) The F7 key permits you to update the entire set's price information. When you select this option you are first asked for this set's common price. After this you will enter the Update Set's Price Info screen. The entire set will be displayed in order, starting with the record for a full set. You will notice that the title bar indicates several options available to you. These keys are used to mark the special flags for your cards. Notice that all of the cards have the common price. You will need to go through this set and mark only the non-common cards with the new price. Page 11 Start by entering the Mint value for this set. You will notice that when you press the enter key, the cursor will move to the next record. Enter all of the non-common prices for your set. You may use the CRUP, CRDN, PGUP, and PGDN keys to move through your set. Press the ESCAPE key to exit when completed. You will be asked if you are sure you want your set's prices over written. If you feel you made a mistake then press the 'N' key. If you are satisfied with your work, press the 'Y' key. If 'Y' was selected the current value of all cards in your set will move into the init value field, and the value field will be over written with the new data you just typed in. The special keys listed on the title bar are explained next: 4.2.4.1 Clear Pressing the 'C' key will clear the Rookie, First, Error, and Special flags. Use this option if you need to correct the flags. 4.2.4.2 Rookie Pressing the 'R' key will cause the Rookie, and First flags to be marked as True. 4.2.4.3 First Pressing the 'F' key will cause the First flag to be marked as True. 4.2.4.4 Error Pressing the 'E' key will cause the Error flag to be marked as True. 4.2.4.5 Special Pressing the 'S' key will cause the Special flag to be marked as True. 4.2.4.6 Goalie Pressing the 'G' key will cause the Goalie flag to be marked as True. Page 12 4.2.4.7 Last Card Pressing the 'L' key will cause the Last Card flag to be marked as True. 4.2.5 Alt-N Key (Advance to Next Supplier) This key will move you to the first set of the next supplier. 4.2.6 Alt-P Key (Advance to Previous Supplier) This key will move you to the last set of the previous supplier. 4.2.7 Add Set This option can be password protected. This would not allow the user to add any set without entering the correct password. This is set in the Utilities Screen. Use this option when you would like to add a new set of cards to the JEANius system. You will notice that the screen changes and some of the fields on the screen become active. At that point your cursor moves into the Issue Year field. Most of the fields on the screen are self explanatory. We will cover each field at this point. 4.2.7.1 Set Category You will notice that the Set Category has a box containing the category Hockey. This indicates that the current card category is Hockey. Any sets you work with in this screen are Hockey sets. To change the category you may use the Tab key to move your highlighted cursor onto the Set Category box. Once you have done this you can press the Enter key. You will notice a selection menu appear giving you all of the categories. You may also use a mouse if you have one to select the category. 4.2.7.2 Issue Year This is the year that the card set was issued. Type in the year in 4 characters. ex: 1992. For Hockey and Basketball use the year the season started in. Page 13 Hockey and Basketball categories will show the year in the following format: 1990/1991. All other categories display the year as follows: 1990. The reason for this is that Hockey and Basketball cards span two years, while the other sports do not. 4.2.7.3 Manufacturer This is the name of the company who produced the card set. You will notice that you can only type in six characters. Therefore if the name is longer than six characters use a meaningful abbreviation. For example if the company name is Parkhurst you might want to use PHURST. Once you have decided on a format for a particular card manufacturer, be consistent and use the same abbreviation from then on. 4.2.7.4 Set Name This is the name you give the set. For example this could be DRAFT PICKS or REGULAR ISSUE. 4.2.7.5 Set Country This is the country of origin for the card set. You can any use any numbers in here, however the low card will most likely be the number one for most sets. The exception would be for a high numbered series. When the JEANius creates a set for you it uses these numbers for the set. So if you use a number other than the number one for the low card, then the starting card number will be the low number. 4.2.7.7 Common Price This is the price found in your price guides for the common card. Normally a common card is any card not listed from your set in the price guide. Price Guides will indicate a standard price they use for all common cards. Page 14 When you change this field, the JEANius program will automatically go through your set and update the values of all of your common cards. 4.2.7.8 Last Update This field is used to store the date of your last price update. If you use our price update service this field will be filled in for you. You can also fill in this field if you desire. 4.2.7.9 Tot Amount (Sets) This is the total number of sets you have. This is a combination of all the mint, near mint, and good sets. You cannot edit this field. You only store mint values for any cards in the JEANius system. Good values are calculated based on this value. Page 16 4.2.8 Edit Set This option can be password protected. This would not allow the user to edit any set without entering the correct password. This is set in the Utilities Screen. When you select this option, the fields you are allowed to edit will be highlighted on the screen, and your cursor will move into the Issue Year field. You will then be allowed to edit the set information. 4.2.9 Delete Set This option can be password protected. This would not allow the user to delete any set without entering the correct password. This is set in the Utilities Screen. This option will allow you to permanently erase or delete an existing set. When you select this option you are asked whether you really want to delete this set or not. Be very careful with this option. There is no way to reverse your decision here. 4.2.10 Select Set When you select this option you will be able to edit the data for your individual cards of this set. The first time you enter this option the actual set needs to be created. You will be presented with two options. These options are discussed next. 4.2.10.1 Create Empty Set This option takes the information you entered when you defined your set. Please refer to section 4.2.1 Add Set. This information is used to create an empty set which contains one record for each card in your set. Page 17 4.2.10.3 Set Data Entry Screen Once you have created an empty set as discussed above, or selected the Select Set button to enter this screen, you may edit the information regarding your set of cards. The first record you will see is the one for a FULL SET. Each set of cards has an entry for full sets. Entries for each individual card in your set follows. 4.2.10.4 Add Rec This option can be password protected. This would not allow the user to add any card without entering the correct password. This is set in the Utilities Screen. Use this option when you would like to add a new card to the JEANius system. You will notice that the screen changes and some of the fields on the screen become active. At that point your cursor moves into the Card Class field. Most of the fields on the screen are self explanatory. We will cover each field at this point. 4.2.10.4.1 Card Class Each set of cards you create may contain different card classes. The cards numbered between your sets lowcard and your sets highcard numbers are part of the regular card class. This is designated by leaving the card class field blank. Some sets come with subsets included in them, which are not part of the regular issue. These subsets form new card classes. When the JEANius system creates a card set, the cards created are given the regular class. You will have to add cards for any special card classes you desire. This is done by using the Add Card feature on this screen. The card class field on the screen only becomes active when you are editing a card which is not part of your regular issue. Page 23 4.2.10.7 Locate Rec The JEANius Locate option is extremely powerful. When you select this option you will enter the first of two screens associated with this option. The first screen is used to fine tune the search parameters. There are four different Search Styles. These are All Sets, Current Sport, Current Set, and Single Card. You set the search style by moving to the desired selection with the tab cursor keys or mouse, and pressing the space bar or clicking the mouse. The Search Styles only work from the Examine Card Sets Screen, and not from the Examine Single Cards Screen. In the Single Cards Screen you can only use the Single Card option. When you select either All Sets or Current Sport the year fields with be highlighted. The year fields are only active with these selections. The Starting year has been filled in for you with the earliest year found in your card sets. The ending year has been filled in with the latest year found in your sets. You can narrow the range of years to search for to any range within these years. Using the Select Suppliers to Search For option will allow you to fine tune your search to certain card supplier or manufacturers. After you have set your locate options you can enter the second screen by selecting the Return to Locate Screen option. The second screen allows you to more specifically fine tune your search criteria. In this screen you can select one of two search styles. The first is Value and the second is Expression. You select which style of search you desire by moving your cursor to the desired selection and pressing the space bar. You will notice that when you select value the top fields are highlighted and the bottom fields are dimmed or ghosted out. When you select expression the top fields are dimmed and the bottom fields are highlighted. You can only enter data into the fields designated for the type of search you are about to perform. Page 24 The search by value feature allows you to search for any single expression. For example you could search for a CARDNAME of JOHN DOE, or a VALUE of 2.00. The key here is that you are searching for a single value. To select the field name to search on move your cursor to the drop down menu button to the right of the value field. Press the enter key and a list of all the available fields will be displayed. Select one of these fields by pressing the enter key. Your cursor will move to the field to the right. At this point enter the data to search for. For example if your are searching for a CARDNAME enter a name or partial name such as ERIC. If you desire the search to find all the cards which start with ERIC for example, you would select the Locate Exact Match option on the bottom of the screen. If you had desired to search all cards which include the letters ERIC for example, then you would select the Locate in Field option. The search by expression option is useful for searches which can not be done using Value. You might desire searches with multiple expressions. For example you may want to find all the rookie cards with a value greater than $2.00. To do this you would set up the search expression in the following manner: rookie .and. value > 2.00 or rookie=.t. .and. value > 2.00 If you wanted to find all the non-rookies with a value greater than $2.00 dollars you could have entered the following: !rookie .and. value > 2.00 or rookie=.f. .and. value > 2.00 You can enter a expression of up to 60 characters in length. The following can be used to build your expressions: .and. = logical and .or. = logical or = = equal to == = logical equal to > = greater than >= = greater than or equal to < = less than <= = less than or equal to <> = not equal to # = not equal to Page 25 If you had selected the First Card search you will be returned to that specific card, otherwise you will see a list of all the matching cards on the screen. This permits you to collect the singles, and when you have enough singles to warrant a set you can transfer these cards to your new set. The search by value feature allows you to search for any single expression. For example you could search for a CARDNAME of JOHN DOE, or a VALUE of 2.00. The key here is that you are searching for a single value. Page 40 To select the field name to search on move your cursor to the drop down menu button to the right of the value field. Press the enter key and a list of all the available fields will be displayed. Select one of these fields by pressing the enter key. Your cursor will move to the field to the right. At this point enter the data to search for. For example if your are searching for a CARDNAME enter a name or partial name such as ERIC. If you desire the search to find the next card which start with ERIC for example, you would select the Locate Exact Match option on the bottom of the screen. If you had desired to find the first card which includes the letters ERIC for example, then you would select the Locate in Field option. The search by expression option is useful for searches which can not be done using Value. You might desire searches with multiple expressions. For example you may want to find the first rookie card with a value greater than $2.00. To do this you would set up the search expression in the following manner: rookie .and. value > 2.00 or rookie=.t. .and. value > 2.00 If you wanted to find the first non-rookie card with a value greater than $2.00 dollars you could have entered the following: !rookie .and. value > 2.00 or rookie=.f. .and. value > 2.00 You can enter a expression of up to 60 characters in length. The following can be used to build your expressions: .and. = logical and .or. = logical or = = equal to == = logical equal to > = greater than >= = greater than or equal to < = less than <= = less than or equal to <> = not equal to # = not equal to Page 41 4.3.5 Xfer Card The XFER CARD option allows you to transfer any card out of the singles database and into a card set of your choice. When you select this option the JEANius system will try to find a card set with the same year, supplier, name, and country of origin. If a set is found you will be allowed to transfer this card. If a set could not be found the transfer will not be permitted. 4.3.6 Next This option displays the next card found in the singles database. 4.3.7 Prior This option displays the previous card found in the singles database. 4.3.8 Top This option takes you to the first card found in the singles database. You will notice that when you go to the top, the top and previous buttons on the selection bar changed colour. This indicates that option is currently unavailable. 4.3.9 Bottom This option takes you to the last card found in the singles database. You will notice that when you go to the bottom, the bottom and next buttons on the selection bar changed colour. This indicates that option is currently unavailable. 4.3.10 Return This option takes you back to the main JEANius menu. Page 42 4.4 Report Menu The report menu gives you eighteen different reports to choose from. Two Matching Data reports are available as well. However, these are not found in the Report Menu. See section Print Matching Data for these reports. All of the reports can be printed to the screen, to a file, or to the printer. All reports sent to a file go into a directory called REPORTS. If you find that when you print out a report to your printer, the lines, boxes and rise/fall indicators in the reports do not print properly, you can change the settings used for these features. This can be done in the Configuration Menu, which can be found in the Utilities menu. The following reports are available from the Report Menu. 4.4.1 Listing of Entire Set This report will print a list of all cards for a set, including cards you do not have. 4.4.2 Required Cards to Complete a Set This report will print a list of all cards you require to complete a set. 4.4.3 Extra Cards in Set This report will print a list of all the extra cards you have, above a designated value, that do not comprise a set. 4.4.4 Common Cards in Set This report will print a list of all cards which are commons. 4.4.5 Premium Cards in Set This report will print a list of all cards which are premiums. Page 43 4.4.6 Rookie Cards in Set This report will print a list of all cards which have the rookie flag set. 4.4.7 Error Cards in Set This report will print a list of all cards which have the error flag set. 4.4.8 Special Cards in Set This report will print a list of all cards which have the special flag set. 4.4.9 Goalie Cards in Set This report will print a list of all cards which have the goalie flag set. 4.4.10 First Cards in Set This report will print a list of all cards which have the first cards flag set. 4.4.11 Last Cards in Set This report will print a list of all cards which have the last cards flag set. 4.4.12 Price Guide Listing This report will print out a report very similar to Price Guide magazines. Rise/Fall arrows will show if a card's value is rising or falling in relation to it's initial values. 4.4.13 Card Checklist This report will print out a checklist of all cards you require to complete a set. This is very handy for sports card shows, as it allows you to check off cards as you purchase them. 4.4.14 Full Set Inventory Report This report will print out a report for each set you have with at least one card in it. This report does not include single cards. Use the singles report for a list of these cards. 4.4.15 Buy Report This report will print out a report for all cards you have designated as having the (B)uy flag set. Page 44 4.4.16 Sell Report This report will print out a report for all cards you have designated as having the (S)ell flag set. 4.4.17 Trade Report This report will print out a report for all cards you have designated as having the (T)rade flag set. 4.4.18 Single Card Report This report will print out a report for all cards found in your singles database. 4.5 Utilities The Utilities menu currently has six options. These are discussed next. 4.5.1 Install Update This option allows you to install any optional data disks which you may have purchased from us. The installation of an update disk is a two step process. The first step is to exit out of the JEANius system and go to the DOS prompt. From here you put your data update disk in drive A: or B:. You then type the following excluding the quotes "a:update a: c:". You can replace the a: with a: or b: Depending on which drive you have put your data disk into, and you can replace the c: with the drive location of your JEANius software. At this point the update data files will be copied onto your hard drive. The next step is to enter your JEANius software, go into the Utilities menu, and select the Install Update option. The JEANius system will then add all of the data files previously copied onto your hard drive into the JEANius system. The data is installed in the following way. If a set is found in your sets with the same year, name, supplier, and country as one currently being installed, you will be allowed to do one of three things. You may either Update Set Info, Append this Set, or Ignore this Set. Page 45 By Updating Set Info you can update all of your set information. This includes the card names, card values, card teams, and all card flags. By using the Append option the set is added to your collection, however your original set name is renamed. Three periods (...) are added to the beginning of your sets name. You may edit this name later if you like. 4.5.2 Update Prices This option allows you to keep your card values current. By purchasing the Price Update disk option from us, you need not bother typing in new card values yourself. To update your prices you first put the price update disk in the drive of your choice. Select the Update Price option, and you will be allowed to select the disk drive containing the Price Update disk. You will then be asked if you would like to have the Initial Values Replaced by Your Current Values. To make the best use of the Price Guide screen and report we suggest you allow the replacement of the initial values with the current values. The choice is yours however. 4.5.3 Transfer Set This option is only active if you have more than one collection, and if you are currently using the non-primary collection. The primary collection is always stored in the \jeanius\dbfs directory. If you have selected a non-primary collection this option will permit you to copy a set from the primary collection, to a new collection. 4.5.4 Add/Edit Teams Use this option to add or edit any teams. Once a team has been created you are not allowed to delete it. Be careful with this option. If you change a team name incorrectly, all of the cards in your collection using this team will display the incorrect information. 4.5.4.1 Add Team This option allows you to add a new team. Page 46 4.5.4.1.1 Team Category Select the category you desire to work with. Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey, or Custom. 4.5.4.1.2 Team Abbrev. Use this field to supply a three character team abbreviation. This is used in reports, as there is not enough room for the entire team name. Make sure that you do not make two or more team names have the same abbreviation. 4.5.4.1.3 Team City Use this field to supply the team's city of origin. 4.5.4.1.4 Team Name Use this field to supply the team name. 4.5.4.2 Edit Team This option allows you to edit an existing team. 4.5.4.3 Next This option displays the next team. 4.5.4.4 Prior This option displays the previous team. 4.5.4.5 Top This option takes you to the first team. You will notice that when you go to the top, the top and previous buttons on the selection bar changed colour. This indicates that option is currently unavailable. Page 47 4.5.4.6 Bottom This option takes you to the last team. You will notice that when you go to the bottom, the bottom and next buttons on the selection bar changed colour. This indicates that option is currently unavailable. 4.5.4.7 Return This option takes you back to the main JEANius menu. 4.5.5 Configure Printer Options The Configure Printer Options selection allows you to change how the boxes, lines, and rise/fall arrows are displayed on the screen, and printed on your reports. This allows users with printers which are not IBM graphic compatible to print these reports. The first two selections (A, and B) of both the boxes, and arrows are for IBM graphic compatible printers only. The balance of the selections will allow the reports to print properly on all printers. You may also select which printer port to use. The default selection is PRN:, you can change this to LPT1:, LPT2:, COM1:, or COM2:. If you decide to use the COM ports you must use the mode command from DOS to properly set up your COM ports, and to redirect your printer output. For example you could type the following: mode com1:96,n,8,1,p mode lpt1:=com1: Check your DOS manual for more information on the above commands. 4.5.6 Configure Other Options This option will allow you to modify six options. They will be explained next. 4.5.6.1 Primary Country When you enter values into your JEANius system you enter them in a certain countries currency. For example you might be using a magazine with the values displayed in American currency. Enter the name of the country you are using to input your prices into this field. Page 48 4.5.6.2 Exchange Country If you desire to view the values of your collection in an alternate countries currency you can use this option. Enter the alternate countries name here. For example you might live in Canada and desire to see Canadian equivalent pricing. 4.5.6.3 Exchange Rate Enter the exchange rate of the Exchange Countries currency here. For example if you had entered U.S.A. as the primary country, and CANADA as the Exchange country, then you enter the Canadian equivalent of a single U.S.A. dollar. Enter this value in Canadian dollars. A US dollar for example may be worth $1.10 currently so you would enter this value here. If the dollar values change you can edit this field again to display the card values properly. You are not restricted to using U.S.A. or Canadian values in the JEANius system. Use any values you desire. The above is for example purposes only. 4.5.6.4 Main Passcode This field is used to set a passcode to enter the Configure Other Options menu selection. If you set this field to a non-zero value you will need to remember this value to re-enter this screen. This give you more access control to areas of the software where someone may inadvertently cause some damage, or change your data if you don't desire it. If you forget the passcode the only way to restore your system is to delete the JEANIUS.CFG file from DOS, and re-enter the JEANius software. A new JEANIUS.CFG file will be created for you. You will have to re-enter you printer and passcode options. 4.5.6.5 Write Passcode The write passcode is used in certain areas of the JEANius software. If you attempt to delete a card or set, add a card or set, edit a card or set, or transfer a card to or from a set, and this passcode is a non-zero value you will be required to enter the correct write passcode. If you do not enter the correct passcode the desired option will not take place. However if you do enter the correct passcode once, the JEANius system will assume that you are an authorized user Page 49 from that point on and will not ask you for the passcode again. When you exit the JEANius software and re-enter you will be asked again. If you forget the passcode the only way to restore your system is to delete the JEANIUS.CFG file from DOS, and re-enter the JEANius software. A new JEANIUS.CFG file will be created for you. You will have to re-enter you printer and passcode options. 4.5.6.6 Select Display This option will allow you to configure the JEANius system for either Monochrome or Colour display. 4.5.6.7 Data Directory This option will allow you to set up different collections. By default the JEANius system sets up an initial set of database files on your hard drive, in the \JEANIUS\DBFS directory. This directory must remain. However, if you require additional collections you may do the following: From DOS create a new data directory. This directory can be on any drive and have any name, with two exceptions. You cannot create any directory within the \JEANIUS\DBFS\ directory, and you cannot use the name \DBFS\ for any directory. From the Data Directory option in the JEANius program, select the new directory. To do so you must select the directory which contains your data. The selected set of files will be in use until you change the Data Directory again. When the JEANius system first boots up, your selected data files are searched for. If the files are not found, or perhaps your files where on a floppy disk, and not in the drive, then the JEANius system will select the default \JEANIUS\DBFS\ directory for it's files. Page 50 4.5.7 Return to Main Menu This option returns you to the JEANius main menu. 4.6 Quit JEANius Program This option will permit you to quit out of the JEANius system.
