Will special-order upon request. Comments: Import CDs only. They don't stock many (any?)"parallel" imports (e.g. European/Japanese versions of discs available from a U.S. distributor) due to fact that the U.S. record companies and the RIAA sometimes take legal action against folks who do. They keep lots in stock, so there is a very quick turnaround for your orders. They're a little stingy about sending catalogs (which list artist, title, price; sometimes format (EP) or country of origin) though, so be persistent. Mail- and phone-order only (there's an associated retail store "Rocks in your Head" in NYC). Disc prices run US$14-$21, usually (3" and 5" singleand EP discs are less). Shipping US$4/order for UPS ground; more for second-day-air UPS or COD (receive 10-14 days after mailing). Payment by check or money-order prepayment, or C.O.D. via UPS ($7.30 COD shipping), or credit card. Knowledgeable and polite service. AEON MUSIC P.O.Box 6185 Torrance CA 90504 Progressive music. The Hot Wacks Press PO Box 544 Owen Sound, Ontario N4K 5R1 Canada FAX (519) 376-9781 _Hot Wacks_ Book XV, "The Last Wacks", is an 802 page discography of bootlegs arranged both by band and label. It gives times, setlists, and sound quality ratings. This is the last publication of this book in its current form, as the bootleg market has grown too large to provide a complete discography (their term) in one book. The company will publish a supplement in January of each year until 1995, when it will publish something called "The Ultimate Wacks". This book is heavily LP and tape oriented, but it lists some CD's. Its listings for Rush, Sting, and the Police (the only ones I'm qualified to judge) are very limited, and in many cases downright wrong. They only rate sound quality in three categories (good, very good, and excellent -- I guess there's no such thing as a bad boot), which may not be specific enough for many people. There are ads for three European boot dealers at the end. The book itself gives no indication that the publisher sells it directly; one person sent a money order to the publisher some time ago and still hasn't heard anything. If you really want this book, you're probably best off ordering it from a dealer like CDC. THE LASER'S EDGE PO BOX 3128, Hoboken, NJ 07030 201-656-2112 (6PM to 10PM EST, No Later !!!) The Laser's Edge is a Label and mail-order CD only distribution run by Ken Golden. Very descriptive and informative catalog of any mail-order outfit I've ever dealt with, every disc is reviewed carefully, and opinions are offered - one of the few people who will tell you that a disc he carries is crappy if it really is ! The in-house label (TLE also) has many releases mostly by long forgotten independent artists from the 70's, but there are some new releases as well. Artists include, The Load, A Triggering Myth, Werwolf, Landberk, Spring, Nightwinds, and Atlantis Philharmonic. His tastes lean more towards early post-psychedelic proto-progressive stuff, and this is evidenced in many of the releases on his own label. He tends to get unusual stuff that, like Wayside, nobody else seems to want to carry. He generally won't go into any further elaboration on items he has in stock. He's been very dependable, but since he's a one-man operation, things get a little slower if you order right after the catalog comes out (2x/year), he does take Visa and Mastercard. Laser House P.O. Order: bk, mag Costs: free newsletter, full catalog $3 In the LP era, under their old name of Down Home Music, this was THE place to find hard-to-get folk items, especially imports. In the early years of CDs, their coverage of the folk field slipped badly, but they have been bouncing back nicely, and in their most recent newsletters they are moving aggressively to reclaim their leadership. Folk is a bit of a sideline - their focus is in country, blues & gospel, R&B, early rock and world music. Their almost-bimonthly newsletters with lots of reviews still make great reading. I've ordered from them many times and never had problems. Be sure you understand their back-order procedure and specify if you want unavailable items backordered. This can mean an unpredictable wait, and sometimes I would prefer to proceed with a foreign order. (Backorders are much more common in the CD era!!) Roundup Records PO Box 154 N.
