Solution: ========= To run OCR, you must have at least 4.5 MB of available memory resources. Acceptable memory is 4.5 MB of RAM or any combination of RAM and Windows swap file totaling 4.5 MB (for example, 2 MB of RAM and a 2.5 MB swap file). You must also be operating Windows in 386 enhanced mode to run OCR. You can quickly find out how much memory you have available to run OCR. After running WinFax, select About Program Manager in the Help menu of Windows Program Manager. The About Program Manager box displays the total amount of free memory (RAM and swap file). If OCR error messages related to lack of memory appear, try the following. 1. Press CTRL + ESC to display the Windows Task List, and close any other Windows applications you are currently running to free up memory. 2. Edit the [AnyFax] section of your WIN.INI file, usually located in your Windows directory (for example C:\WINDOWS). a) If you run Windows 3.1, open the Sysedit (System Editor) application in Program Manager to edit the WIN.INI file. b) If you run Windows 3.0, open and edit the WIN.INI file in Windows Notepad, or any other basic text editor. c) Change the Memsize_300= parameter in the [AnyFax] section as follows: Existing: Change to: Memsize_300=1800 Memsize_300=1000 d) Add the line TempDiskSpace=800 to the [AnyFax] section. This reduces OCR memory allocation from the default of 1,000 KB. e) Save your modified WIN.INI file. Restart Windows, and try running OCR again. 3. If you did not create a permanent Windows swap file or if it has been removed, create one now. For information on creating a permanent swap file, refer to your Microsoft Windows User's Guide. 4. Disable uneccessary memory-resident applications or device drivers in your AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files to optimize system performance. For complete details, refer to your DOS manual or Microsoft Windows User's Guide. Note: For more information on editing Windows initialization files, see WININI.WRI in Windows 3.1, or WININI.TXT in Windows 3.0 (these files are found in the Windows directory).
