It is stronly suggested that you first make a back-up disk. Use the back up, and store the original. It is possible to muck up the text on the screen by using any keys other than the page or scrolling keys. If this happens, DO NOT SAVE, JUST EXIT AND RELOAD THE BOOK. Click on NO. Do NOT save the changes. It would be wise to use a (physical write protect tag). The book has been arranged to be a "WRITE" document set up on a 386 DX 40 computer using DOS 5 and WINDOWS 3.1 : Earlier machines may be slower, but it does rely on the "WRITE" WORD PROCESSOR INTRINSIC TO MICROSOFT WINDOWS. REQUIREMENTS: IBM or compatible computer. UNZIP UTILITY. "MICROSOFT WINDOWS" and "WRITE" Word Processor. MOUSE is fully supported. The uncompressed program requires 700K BYTES of disk space. NOTE: The BOOK is only compressed (ZIPPED) on 360k disks. and on BBS. The BOOK may be offered on 1.2m & 1.4m disks. In which case the BOOK will not be compressed, and can be installed onto a hard disk or read straight from the floppy. INSTALLATION from your original 360k disk. 1. Create a DIRECTORY on your HARD DIDK. 2. Using your favorite unzip utility, uncompress the file BOOK.ZIP. Copy this to the prepared Directory. 3. Alternatively: Copy the file "BOOK.ZIP" directly into an established ACHIVE on your hard disk, then unzip it to a directory of your choice. Copy "README.TXT" to the same directory. The uncompressed names are BOOK.WRI README.TXT READ,TXT READ.BAT README.BAT Description FILE for BBS sysops FILE_ID.DIZ The essential file is BOOK.WRI The essential instruction file is README.TXT. YOU ARE NOW READY TO GO. TO READ THE BOOK, use one of the following options. 1. Engage "WRITE", Open File BOOK.WRI. Remarks, FAST. 2. Set Up as a windows application, Load via ICON. Remarks,FAST, BEST. 3. Open from FILE MANAGER. Select BOOK.WRI then CLICK or ENTER. Remarks, FAST. 4. NOTE: PRINT SETUP SIZE IS A5. You may need to change PRINT SETUP from the "WRITE" FILE MENU to A5 so that the text is printed to the screen in the correct format. Or better still change the setting to A5 in CONTROL PANEL using the PRINTERS ICON. "WRITE" will then default to the size specified (A5). NOTE: Please feel free to distribute copies of the original 360k disk. It must retain all original files. NOTE: If the book is copied to 1.2 or 1.4 meg disks as an alternative to using your hard disk, the scrolling may be slow and jerky. If installed and read from hard disk, scrolling will be smooth and fast and Page Selection will be instantaneous. NOTE: The BOOK can not be read directly from the 360k disk, as the BOOK.WRI file is compressed. Why? First The BOOK will not fit on a 360k disk uncompressed, which would result in the need for more than one disk. And second, compressed files cost less to Download from BBS. AFTER INSTALLATION IT IS IMPORTANT that you read the README.TXT file FIRST. It contains information that you will want to know before attempting to read the book.
