DROPVIEW 2.01 A multi-Window Drag & Drop Image Utility from SJHDesign A) Files in this archive: Program Files: DROPVW2S.EXE - DROPVIEW executable DROPVW2S.HLP - Help file DROPVW.DLL - library routines Documentation: INSTALL.TXT - this information file ORDERFRM.TXT - ASCII file for registering this program B) INSTALLATION This part is easy- just unzip the file. You don't have to put DROPVIEW.EXE in a directory on your path. The only requirement is that the files DROPVW2S.EXE, DROPVW.DLL, AND DROPVW2S.HLP are all in the same directory. C) RUNNING DROPVIEW DROPVIEW requires the File Manager (or Norton Desktop or PC Tools for Windows) to run. You can start it from the Program Manager, your favorite menu program, or by double-clicking on DROPVW21.EXE in File Manager. When the DROPVIEW icon (a little target) appears on your desktop, you are ready to start loading images one at a time or in groups by dragging them from the File Manager down to the DROPVIEW icon. If you want DROPVIEW to load automatically whenever you start Windows, open the File Manager and drag the file DROPVW21.EXE to the STARTUP group in Program Manager. This way, the DROPVIEW is always on your desktop, ready to go. If you place the Dropview icon in a NDW or PCTW Toolbox, you can also start DROPVIEW by dragging an image file to it. This method will load only the program and the first file in the group of files that are dragged to the toolbox icon. If, however, you drag a group of image files to DROPVW21.EXE in File Manager, the program and all of the image files will be loaded. If DROPVIEW is running, you cannot load additional instances of the program. NOTE TO OS/2 2X USERS: DROPVIEW runs quite nicely under WinOS/2. On some systems, it may be nescessary to copy the file TTY.DRV from your \Windows\System directory to your OS2\Mdos\Winos2\System directory. Due to OS/2's somewhat bizzare palette management, when multiple images are loaded, color quality may deteriorate a great deal more than under regular Windows. D) WHAT IT DOES DROPVIEW allows you to drag any number of images from the File Manager and loads each one in it's own scrollable window. The following file formats can be loaded: .BMP - Windows 3x bitmap(all color and compression types including OS/2) .TIF - Aldus Tiff(all color and compression types including Group III and Group IV fax) .PCX - PC Paintbrush PCX .GIF - Compuserve GIF .TGA - Truevision TARGA .WMF - Windows Metafile .WPG - Wordperfect Graphics(Dropview will load only the bitmapped data portion of .wpg files) .PCT - MacPaint PICT .JPG - Joint Photographic Experts Group compressed format(JPEG) .EPS - Adobe Encapsulated PostScript(Dropview will load the screen preview portion of .eps files) Once an image is loaded, you can : -zoom,resize,crop,rotate or flip it -dither(monochrome or 4 color) or greyscale it -adjust brightness and contrast -copy all or part of it to the clipboard -overlay a clipboard bitmap on it -save it in any of the above file formats -make it your desktop wallpaper without messing around with Control Panel, no matter what file type it is -get it's vital statistics(size, # of colors, type, etc.) -Print it(in full color if your printer supports it) DROPVIEW windows will also accept any kind of image from the Clipboard and allow you to save it any of the above formats. E) MENU COMMANDS The menu commands available for each DROPVIEW window are explained in the Help file. To view it, click on the DROPVIEW icon and choose HELP. A few general notes on the menu commands: COPYING AND PASTING: Dropview has a rather different way of handling copying and pasting to and from the clipboard. Most of these operations can be performed without menu commands by the use of mouse buttons. 1)COPYING TO THE CLIPBOARD: a copy area can be blocked by pressing and holding the left mouse button and moving the mouse. As the mouse is moved, a rectangle showing the clipping area is drawn. At this point, you can bring down the EDIT menu and choose COPY to copy the selected area to the clipboard or double-click the left mouse button to cancel the operation. To copy an entire image to the clipboard, choose COPY without first drawing a rectangle. 2)VIEWING OR PASTING CLIPBOARD CONTENTS: this is done by pulling down the EDIT menu and choosing the SHOW CLIPBOARD command, which loads the Clipboard image into a seperate DROPVIEW window. Any of DROPVIEW's image processing functions can now be performed on the clipboard image. You can also get a preview of what an overlay will look like simply by moving the mouse to the place where the clipboard image is to be inserted and pressing and holding the right mouse button. The clipboard image will now appear, and if you keep the right button down you can move the clipboard image around. The image can be pasted by double-clicking on the right mouse button or choosing the OVERLAY command from the EDIT menu. Double clicking on the left mouse button cancels the operation. The PASTE command will replace the image in the current window with the clipboard image(if you made any changes to the image in the current window, be sure to save it before using the PASTE command). WALLPAPER : The TILE WALLPAPER AND CENTER WALLPAPER choices on the BITMAP menu will load any image file(not just .bmp) as wallpaper. If you choose this command while a non-bitmap file is loaded in the current window, the program creates a temporary .bmp file and pops up a message box with the name of the new file so you can later delete it if desired. The wallpaper commands cannot be used on images in DROPVIEW Clipboard windows-you must save clipboard images before using them as wallpaper. F) CLOSING DROPVIEW The DROPVIEW windows can be closed individually choosing exit from the file menu or by opening the window's system menu and choosing close. Or, all bitmap windows can be closed at once by double clicking the DROPVIEW icon and choosing CLOSE WINDOWS from the system menu. The program remains active and the icon will still be visible. To close the DROPVIEW program, click on it and choose CLOSE. Doing this will also close any DROPVIEW windows that are still open. G) SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS Any system that will run Windows 3.1 will run DROPVIEW. The program does not run under Windows 3.0. J) Version History Dropview 1.1(1/6/93): 1) CloseWindows command added to Dropview Icon's System menu allowing the user to close all open Bitmap Windows without closing the program. 2) Bug Fix : Version 1.0 had a bug that prevented part of the visible area of a bitmap window from being updated(repainted)when it was brought out from behind another bitmap window. The user could update the window with the REFRESH command, but this is something the program should do automatically. It has been corrected. 3)Exit command added to the File menu. Dropview 1.2(1/14/93) 1)Window cascading routine added-opening window sizes adjusted so windows do not cascade off the screen or cover up minimized desktop icons. 2)Palette management improved for display of multiple 256 or 24 bit color bitmaps. 3)Zoom function modified to paint only the visible area of the zoomed bitmap, resulting in much greater speed. Dropview 2.0(5/11/93) 1)Support for several image file formats added 2)Support for all popular true color video cards added 3)Display of 24 bit images speeded up dramatically 4)Several image and color manipulation functions added 5)Support for Norton Desktop and PC Tools for Windows file managers added My sincere thanks to the users who have aided in the development of of this program with their many helpful suggestions.
