IconWorks for Windows 3.1 ------------------------- Release 6 by Lou A. Moccia IconWorks by Microsoft is a freely distributed, full-featured .ICO icon editor for Windows that rivals many shareware and commercial packages. It is full of tools and options, with complete online help. NOTE: Release 6 hopefully fixes a long-running problem for a few users who had experienced the "invalid property" message and could not run IconWorks on their systems. This problem was very rare and seemed completely random, occurring on only a few systems, and its cause was never determined. All I did to avoid it for good was add error checking to Microsoft's .INI file handling code. The following provides information about setting up the IconWorks files. Complete details about the use of IconWorks can be found in the ICONWRKS.HLP file, which is accessed from the IconWorks Help menu (or you can open it in WINHELP directly). Archive Files ------------- The IconWorks ZIP archive contains the following files: ICONWRKS.EXE - The IconWorks Windows application ICONWRKS.HLP - The IconWorks Windows Help file CMDIALOG.VBX - Support file required by IconWorks README.TXT - This soft ASCII text file Program Setup ------------- Unless you already have it, obtain a copy of the VBRUN300.DLL file available online (search on VBRUN). Note the one required for IconWorks has 300 in the name, not 200 or 100. Copy VBRUN300.DLL to the Windows System subdirectory, or to any directory of the PATH setting. Note that if you have other applications that require VBRUN300.DLL, then you only need one copy of it and don't need to download it again (and can delete any multiple copies you may have that are just wasting disk space). Unless you already have a newer version of it, copy the CMDIALOG.VBX file to the Windows System subdirectory, or to any directory of the PATH setting. This file is required to use IconWorks. NOTE: Some programmers decide to set the date and time of files like this to the same date and time as their program files. If this is done, then it is possible that an older version of CMDIALOG.VBX will appear to be newer than the one included in this archive, which isn't very nice for users. The date and time of CMDIALOG.VBX included in this archive is accurate as shipped with the programming environment. Copy the ICONWRKS.EXE and ICONWRKS.HLP files to any directory. For online help to be available in IconWorks, be sure to set the working directory for the IconWorks choice in your shell to where IconWorks resides (or, just copy ICONWRKS.HLP to the Windows directory). Note that if ICONWRKS.HLP is not found in the current directory, in the working directory, or in a PATH directory when IconWorks starts up, then it will display a message to the effect. Notes ----- This IconWorks release is based on version 1.00 of the IconWorks Sample Application included with Microsoft Visual Basic 3.0 for Windows, Professional Edition. Modified, compiled, and distributed by Lou A. Moccia (America Online: PCA Lou, Internet: pcalou@aol.com). Microsoft provides a royalty-free right to use, modify, reproduce and distribute the Sample Application Files (and/or any modified version) included with its programming environments in any way found useful, provided that it is agreed that Microsoft has no warranty, obligations or liability for any Sample Application Files.
