CEO Lite is a replacement for MS Windows 3.1 Program Manager. It offers all the major features of Program Manager plus a host of new features. If you're looking for an easy to use replacement with all the features Program Manager should have had, give CEO Lite a try. CEO Lite is a subset of the retail version of our program, CEO:Desktop Manager. See the file orderfrm.txt to order either program. CEO Lite is available for $35 and CEO:Desktop Manager is available for $50. CEO:Desktop Manager includes several new features not found in CEO Lite and provides a printed manual. For more info on CEO:Desktop Manager see the catalog.txt file or the end of this file. Installation (perform to install new versions, also): To install CEO follow the steps below. 1. Insert the CEO disk 1 into the appropriate drive. Or, copy all files into a temporary directory. 2. From Program Manager or File Manager select the Run command and type in a:install.exe. If using the b drive, substitute a: with b:. Or, from the temporary directory, execute install.exe. 3. Follow the install program's directions for installing the software. Should this process fail for any reason, follow the instructions for the manual install process in the trouble.txt file. If you are currently using the programs Sloop Manager or Folders, you will be given the opportunity to import them into CEO. Uninstalling CEO: An uninstall program is provided with CEO to remove it completely from your system. To uninstall CEO run the program unstall.exe. It will remove all CEO files from your system and undo the changes made to the WIN.INI file. CEO Lite's major features include: *Create subfolders (subgroups) within folders, allowing you to create a tree structure of folders and subfolders. *Password protection provided for individual folders or can be used to lock people out of Windows completely. *History menu which tracks the last twelve applications launched from any folder. This allows you to quickly re-launch an application you wish to use again after closing it. *Add items to folders by dragging files from the File Manager. Launch programs by dropping data files on program icons where the icons may either be icons in a folder or icons on the desktop. Print files by dropping them on Print Manager. *Multi-select capability provided when adding or deleting items. Add multiple items at once or delete multiple items using two different delete capabilities. *Launch multiple applications with a single action. All items in a folder may be launched at once or only selected items may be launched by just hitting the enter key. *Includes run command with browse button. The last twelve commands entered are stored with no duplications for easy access. *Customizable popup run menu provided for quick access to programs accessible from any folder or from the desktop. Easy to use menu editor included for building and maintaining run menu. Menu items may be set to run minimized or maximized. Also, hotkeys may be assigned to menu items. *Assign hotkeys to items for quick launching. In addition, programs can be set to automatically inquire for a data file upon execution. *Includes associate command similar to File Manager's, but CEO's allows multiple programs to be assigned to a single extension. Executing a folder item with multiple programs assigned to it will cause a listbox to appear from which the desired program to be run may be selected. *The install program included automatically builds folders from your Program Manager groups and places them in CEO making for quick and easy setup. Note you should only set a subfolder icon when the subfolder is closed. The 'Folder -' which precedes the name of every folder may now be eliminated. Add a line to the [Defaults] section of the ceo.ini file which reads: Folder-=0 Any folder may now be specified as the startup folder upon Windows startup. Use the following command line when starting Windows: >win *s[] Replace with the name of the folder to be used as the startup folder. For example; >win *s[Debug Startup] ************************************************************************ ADDED FEATURES IN CEO:DESKTOP MANAGER - Link to directory capability. Once a folder is linked to a directory it will automatically add and delete folder items as files in the specified directory are added or deleted. - Set the background color of individual folders (icon mode only). - Access the customizable run menu by simply clicking the mouse on the desktop anywhere. - Set menu items to be accessed from the system menu of minimized folders. - Display folders in a third additional display mode, button mode. Folder items are displayed as buttons similar to a toolbar. - Specify how items are to be sorted. Sort by item name, file name or file extension. - Turn on/off confirmation of deletions and saves. - Set the icon used by the main CEO window when minimized. - Trashcan utility. Delete folder items by dropping them in the trachcan.
