This procedure is generally used for diskless workstations or workstations that have floppy drives only. ON THE SERVER 1) Do a normal install of Lantastic For Windows 5.0 at the server. Use C:\LANTASTI as the installation directory. 2) Exit Windows once the Lantastic For Windows installation is complete. Change to the root of the C: drive and create the directory C:\LFW50. CD\ MD\LFW50 3) Copy the following files to the C:\LFW50 directory. COPY C:\LANTASTI\W*.* C:\LFW50 COPY C:\LANTASTI\V*.* C:\LFW50 COPY C:\LANTASTI\*.DLL C:\LFW50 COPY C:\LANTASTI\LANT*.* C:\LFW50 COPY C:\LANTASTI\SBOOK.* C:\LFW50 COPY C:\LANTASTI\LANRAD.* C:\LFW50 4) Change the file attributes for the files just copied to Read-Only. ATTRIB +R C:\LFW50\*.* 5) The Server is now set to share the Lantastic For Windows software from the C:\LFW50 directory. ON THE WORKSTATION The following assumes the workstation is a floppy only, or diskless workstation with its C: drive redirected to the server's C: drive. If the workstation has a local hard drive then the following lines will need to be modified to reflect the appropriate drive letter the workstation redirects to the server. 1) Edit the Autoexec.bat file and change the DOS path statement to include the both the C:\LFW50 and C:\LANTASTI directories. The order in the DOS path is important. PATH=C:\LFW50;C:\LANTASTI;C:\WINJOE;C:\WINDOWS; ......etc. 2) Change to the workstation's personal Windows directory. CD\WINJOE 3) Edit the SYSTEM.INI file and make the following changes. Be careful in making the changes below. If the line already exists then modify it, otherwise add the line in as shown. [ Boot] Network.drv=C:\LFW50\LANTNET.DRV [Boot Description] Network.drv=Artisoft Lantastic operating system 5.0 [386Enh] Network=*vnetbios, C:\LFW50\LANTASTI.386 Pervmfiles=0 NetHeapSize=64 NetAsynchTimeOut=5.0 NetAsynchFallBack=True Emmexclude=D800-DFFF (optional: use with lantastic 2mbps adapters or 3rd party network adapters that use a rambase - adjust the address range to the actual address range used) [Lantastic] Network_Irq=15 (use the irq used by your network adapter) *** Important - there should only be ONE occurrence of the lines above in the system.ini. If a line already exists, then that line should be modified as shown above or commented out by placing a semicolon in front of it. 4) Edit the WIN.INI file add the following to the 'Load=' line: C:\LFW50\WNET.EXE Example: Load=C:\LFW50\WNET.EXE ....... (where .. indicated any items on that line from before) 5) Load Windows at the workstation. 6) Create a 'Lantastic' group Click on File and select 'New' Choose Program Group Enter 'LANtastic' as the description Enter 'Lantasti.grp' for the group file name. click on OK 7) Now create the lantastic icons for each of the items below. To do this, click on file and select new, Choose program Item, Enter the Description, and command from table below for each item you are creating. Description Command Working Shortcut Directory Key Lantastic Net WNET.EXE C:\LFW50 none Lantastic Net Manager* WNET_MGR.EXE C:\LFW50 none Network Scrapbook SBOOK.EXE C:\LFW50 none Lan Radio** LANRAD.EXE C:\LFW50 none Voice Error Manager** WVEM-MGR.EXE C:\LFW50 none * Net Manager is not required for workstations and may be omitted. ** Lan Radio and the Voice Error Manager require an Artisoft Sounding Board to work. You can skip creating the icons for these items if you do not have an Artisoft Sounding board. 8) Workstation is now ready to run Lantastic For Windows from the server.
