Greetings from the ConSorTium! For info concerning Door World magazine please see the note at the end of this update document. The .EXE files that come in this archive can be copied directly over the corresponding .EXE files in your Terra-Firma subdirectory. PLEASE make a copy of the existing .EXE's before you write over them. If you encounter any difficulties with these newer versions you can always go back to your originals. What's new......& why the update...... You can all thank Rob McCalla of the Heavy Metal BBS in VA 1:163/310 for pointing me in the right direction to find and squash these bugs!! Thanks a million Rob for sending me your Zipped up game to experiment on and taking so much interest in Terra-Firma. I owe ya one!! The are a few other bugs that have been sent in and are in the process of being fixed. None however that will hamper game play like the ones below. In a few weeks of this file date 1-22-1995 I should have another TERRAFIX bug update file on my BBS for downloading or file request. The following bugs were serious enough for me to get this file out to you all. 1. I'm surprised I didn't get a lot of complaints about this. A bug crept up in the CYCLE.EXE program which was giving an error 55. This is a file already open error. When I changed the CYCLE.EXE last time, I left in a useless line of code which was mucking things up. Totally my fault! This bug was causing a no finish with the CYCLE program causing things like old players never being deleted and multiple satellite sightings in the game. 2. When I changed my new Error checking routine to make sure that when players dropped carrier and other assorted silly things, all the Terra files would get saved properly. What I didn't think about was the fact that if I set up these same routines in the opening of Terra and a user dropped carrier before they signed into the game that the new error routine would try and write to files that didn't even exist yet! Of course this never happened on my system or any of the beta systems because we all have perfect users. Any way this would cause Terra to hang, waiting for the poor unsuspecting SysOp to press a key thereby hanging the BBS! Very sloppy, with no excuse. I would be pissed if it happened on my system from a door game....It's fixed now... 3. Added a feature while I was fixing the opening bug. You can now add a straight ASCII text file to your Terra subdirectory with the names of any users that may have helped you pay for Terra-Firma. This will only show in the registered version (obviously). You could also put something funny in the file if you wish. Just don't make it more that 5 or 6 lines long. Each line should be no longer than 78 characters. The file name must be OTHERS.TXT ********************************************************************** 4.
