The First SCARYFISH Best Worlds Contest!!! How would you like a world or worlds you created to be included on a disk of user-created worlds, with the opportunity to win $200 or more! This could be possible if you enter the 1st SCARYFISH Best Worlds Contest. You might ask how this can be judged fairly. The answer: winners will be determined by votes from the people fishing the user-created worlds! The first contest will probably have the fewest entries and therefore the best chance to win. If you're reading this after the deadline or can't get a world ready by the deadline, no problem; enter the second Best Worlds Contest. Rules might be a little different in subsequent years. CONTEST RULES: Send your file(s) on a floppy disk (either size) to PMP Software Worlds Contest, 4021 Meramec St #5, Saint Louis MO 63116-3559. Entries must be postmarked on or before March 31, 1995. (If you're reading this after the deadline, send SASE or email to PMP Software for rules for 2nd or later Best Worlds Contest). If you're also entering the Records Contest (deadline December 31) you can put your records file on the same disk, but include a note that you're entering both contests. The file can either be in .SF2 or .MOW format, but note that .SF2 files can be run by any registered user of SCARYFISH with Version 2.1 or later, while .MOW files need the Make Your Own Worlds Utility in addition to be run from the game. Each world file can be accompanied by a text file, length under 1000 bytes, description or whatever. You might want to declare the legality of the world(s) you created. Ex: "I placed this file in the public domain; anyone can upload it on BBS's", or "This work is property of [your name], but it can be distributed, uploaded, etc.". Total size of your world & description files cannot exceed 30000 bytes. For most people the total file size will be a lot less. This file size limit is for one household. In the unlikely event that your total file size is over 30000 bytes, include <30000 worth this time and save the others for next year. Void where prohibited. Not responsible for lost, damaged, or misdirected entries. All entrants must sign a permission form containing the text at the bottom of the sample entry form (releases PMP Software from liability). The mid-1995 release of SCARYFISH will have an option to order the User Worlds disk. Every User Worlds disk will include a form to vote on the best world. The voting form will indicate the deadline to vote (expected to be March 31, 1996). One vote per order of the User Worlds disk. The worlds with the top ten votes by the end of the voting period will get prizes (figures are in US dollars): 1st: $ 200 2nd: $ 100 3rd: $ 50 4th: $ 25 5th: $ 20 6th: $ 15 7th: $ 10 8th: $ 10 9th: $ 10 10th: $ 10 Each winner also gets a free update of the SCARYFISH game! (a $5 value) Ties are handled by an equal split. Example: 1st and 2nd tied, each get $150. PMP Software will throw in an extra cent for rounding in uneven ties such as 3-way. You can vote for yourself, assuming you ordered the User Worlds Disk. PMP Software members, sponsors of this contest, and immediate family are not eligible to enter or vote. Instances of the sample files (STOCKED_.MOW, EXAMPLES.MOW) are not allowed. It is possible for the same person to win multiple prizes with different worlds, but that winner will only get one free update. To ensure that the User Worlds disk is worth ordering, PMP software will skim over the world(s) you send in the contest to make sure they abide by a few reasonable standards: 1) Names cannot be obscene, slanderous, or violate known trademarks. 2) Worlds cannot be "pointless" (e.g. unable to move from start). 3) No undocumented "killer holes" (can enter from land, but immediately fall into water!), unavoidable "incidents", or getting "stuck". 4) Worlds in the .MOW format must be "error-free", meaning there are no error messages when selecting "Convert To Runnable Format" from the Make Own Worlds Utility or "Check if can be ..." from SCHTKR. These few restrictions should be no problem, but if there is any problem PMP Software will inform you of them, hopefully in time for you to re-submit the file corrected. If multiple people enter worlds with the same name, the first entry received gets to use that name and the later one(s) will get a similar name different enough to avoid confusion with the voting. Statement of No liability By entering a file or files into this contest, you agree to release PMP Software from any form of liability. Be sure to sign at the bottom of the entry form. Not that any cause for liability would occur, but lawyer types expect this type of permission authorization. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sample Entry Form for Best Worlds Contest: If you don't have a printer you can write this stuff: Here is my entry for the 1st SCARYFISH Best Worlds Contest.
