README file for SCHTKR Version 1.x and the Make Your Own Worlds Utility, Copyright (C) 1993-1994, PMP Software: SCHTKR is a "lite" version of the Make Your Own Worlds Utility. It lets users create "worlds" for use in ScaryFish, a multi-species game for 1-4 players. Model real-life fishing holes, create fictional waters, or re- create real-life areas as they might have existed in the "good old days". Worlds can be of almost any size, can have up to 32 species from a list of over 40 species, can have up to 25 fishing holes, and can use any combination of over 70 terrains. You can stock the fishing holes yourself or let the computer select a realistic, possibly mysterious distribution. There are two examples files: one completed world and one challenging set of rapids that doubles as an example for the game's screensaver. Enter the Best Worlds Contest with a chance to win $200 or more! The program has many options and powerful features, but is quite easy to use (no programming is necessary). SCHTKR, The Make Your Own Worlds Utility, and ScaryFish are written by: PMP Software 4021 Meramec St #5 Saint Louis MO 63116-3559 To run the program, type 'SCHTKR'. The game's files (listed below) should all be in the same directory. Example for creating a directory on a hard drive C with the program's files in floppy drive A: C:\ MD\SCHTKR1 CD\SCHTKR1 COPY A:\*.* There are three sets of already-made screensaver distributions; here is how to view each of them: a) Select screensaver from main menu, same distributions as in SCARYFISH. b) Choose "Edit Work On A World", "Stocked Reservoir", "Back To Main", type N when asked if you want to save, then select screensaver from main menu. These are like huge aquarium tanks. c) Same as above, but select "Example World II" instead of "Stocked...". This screensaver has several saltwater distributions. The Configuration Menu lets you change background color, # of fish, etc. See MAKEOWN.DOC for how to make your own screensaver distributions. To run the challenging rapids: Select "Edit Work On A World" from the main menu Choose "Examples World II" from the menu Select "Test Mode" See if you can make it through all the rapids and reach the sea without incident! The main documentation file is MAKEOWN.DOC. You can read it online from the game's main menu (Instructions) or view it from a file viewer, word processor, or text editor. There is no printed manual but you can create one by loading into a word processor or text editor with a print option. SCHTKR V2 will run on just about any IBM PC-compatible / MS-DOS computer. You probably need at least 384K for graphics modes. Graphics are not required, but the game supports VGA, EGA, CGA, and Hercules graphics modes. Some names in this paragraph are registered trademarks of their respective companies. Windows users: It is not recommended that you run SCHTKR or the Make Your Own Worlds Utility from within Windows. If you have to run it from Windows, save your progress often because of the possibility of a crash. (I have never heard of ScaryFish crashing under Windows though). To print out the order form (a regular text file), type "COPY ORDER.FRM PRN" from the DOS prompt, or load into any word processor / text editor with an option to print files. You can load a world file from another disk or directory; to do this select *From Different Path* from the "which world" menu. See ORDER.FRM for other PMP Software products. Another freely-distributable PMP Software program: ScaryFish 2 - Multispecies Fishing Game 1-4 Players; over 25 species; many options Has "Relaxing" and Tournament modes. Shareware version has 49 holes at 3 worlds. Humorous mishaps occur. Results different every time you play. Need at least 470K RAM Graphics not req'd but supports VGA EGA CGA & Herc. Keywords: games sports fishing scary Exciting contest with over 100 ways to win! Anglers will appreciate the realism. $15-20 __________________________________________________________________________ SCHTKR is marketed as shareware. It is copyrighted by the author, but you can make copies of / distribute it as long as you don't charge anything (aside from the small cost of copying it), and all the freely-distributable files are distributed together unmodified. The file list is: SCHTKR.EXE FILE_ID.DIZ MAKEOWN.DOC CONTEST2.TXT README ENTRY.FRM TERRAINZ.TXT ORDER.FRM FILE*.SF2 (9 files) LIC-MOW.DOC STOCKED_.MOW STOCKED_.BAK EXAMPLES.MOW EXAMPLES.BAK To make a copy for a friend, move to the directory with SCHTKR and copy the files from the above list to the destination disk. If you received the game in a one file archive/compressed/zipped format, that is the preferred way to distribute it. Do _not_ copy or distribute the Make Your Own Worlds Utility; it is _not_ freely-distributable; such activity violates copyright laws and is subject to criminal prosecution. BBS sysops: look for file_id.diz VENDORS: If you're considering carrying SCHTKR, good thinking! Send a copy of your catalog to the address in ORDER.FRM. Include the address for PMP Software to send the latest shareware version and if possible a disk and/or SASE mailer. Do not charge your customers more than $6.00 for a 360K or 720K disk; no more than $7.00 for a HD disk. It is possible to fit SCHTKR and the shareware version of SCARYFISH on one disk since the total size of the two programs is under 360K compressed. SCHTKR is "freeware" in that there is no registration fee. The Make Your Own Worlds Utility, a non-shareware product available from PMP Software for $15, requires ScaryFish 2.1 or later and lets you convert world files into the format usable by the ScaryFish game. SUPPORT: Hopefully you will not experience any problems with this game. However, if you do, read the documentation (this file and MAKEOWN.DOC). The problem might be addressed there. If there is still a problem, the author might be able to help. Contact him at the address at the start of this file. It would help if you included system info such as computer brand, processor, DOS version, RAM size, etc. You could try calling (314) 776-3065 Mon-Fri between 9AM-9PM CST. This is not an order line since credit cards aren't accepted at this time. If what you order includes a diskette and it's unreadable, return within 30 days with an explanation that the disk is bad, and PMP Software will send a replacement. Otherwise, shareware lets you "try before you buy", so there shouldn't be any other reason for returns/refunds. If the game doesn't run on your machine, let me know (see paragraph on support). If you ordered the MOWU directly (preregistered) and it's impossible for it to work on your machine, a refund can be offered in that special case.
