Terrain Maker Version 1.1 (C) 1994 by Eric Jorgensen Example Files This text file briefly discusses the example files provided with Terrain Maker. These files are designed to show of some of the strengths and limitations of Terrain Maker. EXAMPLE.GHF - This heightfield was generated with version 1.0. These are the step I followed to make it: - generated a random landscape with a density setting of 35 and a smoothness setting of 5. - created a new colormap. - used the 'lower' tool to get rid of all the land in the lower left corner. - used the 'level' tool to get rid of some moutains and create a beachfront. - used 'dirt','smooth', and 'rough' tools to generate the pinensula. EXAMPLE.POV - This the POV scene file used to render my landscape. EXAMPLE.JPG - This is a 640x480x24bit rendering of example.ghf. It took 2.5 hours on a 486 DX2/66. A couple notes: - The background dosn't look that bad. The datail is high and any blemishes were subdued with 'fog.' - The triangles in the foreground are painfully apparent. here are couple of solutions for dealing with this effect: - Smooth the terrain - Add a normal texture like bumps to break up the lines - Use a separate heightfield for the foregroud (Best solution, but costs memory and render time.) - This is easier to get away with when there are lots of shadows in the scene. -Eric Jorgensen
