Bruce Lockhart, SM0TER, has been named IARU Satellite Frequency
Coordinator, whose (volunteer) job will be to  coordinate
frequencies and emissions of planned amateur satellites with
existing and planned amateur satellites. The appointment was made in
consultation with major AMSAT groups in Europe and North America.
 
Lockhart also will maintain records of frequencies and emissions of
all operating and planned amateur satellites and provide advice on
suitable frequencies and modes for planned amateur satellites, based
on existing and planned usage of the amateur satellite bands and the
IARU band plans.
 
While this is a technical position, the satellite frequency
coordinator position also assists in the protection of bands
allocated to the amateur satellite service.  Lockhart will work
closely with IARU Satellite Adviser Hans van de Groenendaal, ZS5AKV.
 
Lockhart, an engineer, is self employed as an international
consultant in the process control industry. He was first licensed as
K3ZAQ in 1963 and has operated on all bands from 1.8 MHz to 2.4 GHz.
He is a member and Technical Secretary of AMSAT-SM, is a member of
AMSAT-UK and AMSAT-NA, and is known in the amateur satellite
community as the original designer of the TrakBox.
 
In September the Administrative Council eliminated the position of
satellite coordinator and created two in its place: satellite
adviser and satellite frequency coordinator.
