According to the DXCC Desk, the Philippines are one of several countries with territorial claims in the Spratly group. Any operation from the Spratlys should use the call sign of the occupying authority. NEPAL and BANGLADESH. Members of the Japan UNICEF Ham Club plan to be on the air through year end starting December 24. From January 1 to 7 they will move to Bangladesh and operate from there. CW, SSB and RTTY will be their modes. QATAR. Tom, DL9FCQ, hopes to be active January 14 to 27. He favors CW during his evening hours on 40 through 10 meters. QSL via CBA. PHILIPPINES. Tom, SM0CNS, is signing SM0CNS/DU7 on 80 through 10 meter CW from Cebu Island. He will operate SSB or RTTY on request. Tom hopes to be on 160 meters soon. Eddie, VI0ANT, works his radio around his work schedule, but is usually QRV from 0030 to 0300z and again from 1230 to 1700z. Though RTTY equipped, Eddie prefers CW on the low end of 20 meters. He hears NA stations on 40 meters around 1400z but reports getting few answers to his calls. Try the long path heading between 0030 and 0300z. QSL via VK4BMD. KERGUELEN ISLAND. Pierre, FT5XJ, aka F5NLL, was heard on a DX net December 18. Check 14226 kHz at 1415z. SOLOMON ISLANDS. Norbert, DJ9RB, and Bernhard, DL2GAC, will be on the air during the second half of January. Action will be on CW, SSB and PacTOR, with special emphasis on the low bands. QSL via their home calls. TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS. Joe, WB8GEX, will sign his call /VP5 from December 26 through year end. He will operate SSB on 160 through 10 meters. QSL via WB8GEX with SASE. Remember that new postage rates go into effect January 1. EASTERN KIRIBATI. Only three of the original five operators will be active from Christmas Island for the DXpedition slated for December 27 to January 2. Listen for T32J by JR5JAQ, T32A by JA5EXW, and T32X by JA4GXS. For CW try 1806 and 1910, 3506, 7006, 10106, 14006, 18074, 21006, 24896, 28006 and 50110 kHz. SSB will be around 3799, 7070, 14190, 18120, 21290, 24940, 28490 and 50110 kHz. Tomo, JH2PDS/1, reports that Karl, DK2WV, will probably not be able to operate as 3V8W this year. SOUTH GEORGIA. Al, WA3YVN, reports that the SGI trip is a go for January 4 to 19. Before departure to SGI, listen for Al, Jan, WA4VQD, and Vince, K5VT, to be on the air from the Falklands. EASTER AND SALA Y GOMEZ ISLANDS. Bob, KK6EK, and Carlos, NP4IW, are planning a serious DXpedition to these islands for sometime in August and September of 1995. Permits have been obtained. The calls will be XR0Y for Easter Island and XR0Z for Sala y Gomez Island. The team will probably consist of 24 operators, with some big-time calls in DX and contesting being mentioned. They include KK6EK, NP4IW/6, KA3MUF, KD8IR, W6MKB, ON6TT, WJ2O, AB7BB, K9SJC, AA6KX, K1OCS, K1XM, KQ1F, WA5DAN, KD6ISY, and AA6TT. QSL ROUTE CORRECTION.
