SB SPCL @ ARL $ARLX031 ARLX031 Big Dish details ZCZC AX63 QST de W1AW Special Bulletin 31 ARLX031 From ARRL Headquarters Newington CT November 21, 1994 To all radio amateurs SB SPCL ARL ARLX031 ARLX031 Big Dish details Big-Dish operation from VE3ONT during the ARRL EME Contest November 26 and 27 is confirmed. They will transmit on 144.100 and listen between 144.100 and 144.110 on both days. The station will run full legal power into the 46-meter (150-ft) dish at Algonquin Park, Ontario (grid FN05xw). The lower elevation limit of the dish is 9 degrees, so Moon access is somewhat limited. VE3ONT is especially interested in working small stations, and the operators plan to ''work through'' the bigger stations as rapidly as possible. SSB operation is planned for about an hour at Moonrise and from time to time thereafter. If you want to work VE3ONT on SSB, please wait they switch to that mode. Please also do not request multiple QSOs, even on different modes, because this practice reduces the chances for small stations to work them. Small (OSCAR-class) stations may want to delay their attempts until somewhat later in each Moon pass, to avoid QRM. And avoid calling VE3ONT on 144.100. The operators will make rapid-fire contacts, using the ''T-M-O'' method instead of RST signal reports. VE3ONT will have no skeds, no ''special'' listening frequencies, and will not be available via telephone. There will be no pre-contest operation on 50 MHz or 10 GHz, as earlier had been hoped. As users of a non-amateur antenna, VE3ONT is not in competition with any other stations. Thanks to Mike Owen, W9IP, for this information. NNNN /EX
