CARLOW AND DISTRICT AMATEUR RADIO GROUP. ---------------------------------------- The Carlow and District Amateur Radio Group re-opened after the Summer recess on Wednesday the 14th of September at 7:30 pm in the RTC ,Kilkenny Road,Carlow. The Group extends congratulations to the following members on passing the Dept of Communications Theory Examination and obtaining their B Licence :Sean Doran EI9EBB-Tullow,Co.Carlow,Seamus Ryan EI9EPB-Mullinahone, Co.Tipperary,Tony Cook,EI8EUB-Athy,Co.Kildare,Paul Oxley,-Portlaoise and Tommy Walker-Carlow. The RTC Carlow holds its "Open Day" at the College on Wednesday 28th of September from 11 am to 3 pm and the Carlow Group have again been invited to take part in the proceedings,as in 1993. The Club will have a Stand with Information on the Club activities and Amateur Radio related subjects. This will be a great opportunity to promote the club and Amateur Radio to the students and general public. The Carlow and District Radio Group meet in the RTC,Carlow every Wednesday at 7:30 pm and all are welcome to attend and further information about the Group may be obtained from Pat,EI6HF. DONEGAL (TIR CONNAIL)AMATEUR RADIO SOCIETY. ------------------------------------------- At the last meeting of the Donegal (Tir Connail) Amateur Radio Society was of great interest to antennaa builders with a demonstration of the MFJ SWR analyser by Willie,EI6AI and Raymond,EI9DM with technical information from Joe,EI8EG. A home-brew wheatstone bridge and signal generator was also demonstrated. The Annual General Meeting of the DTARS will be held on Wednesday 28th of September in Jacksons Hotel,Ballybofey. With many new callsigns appearing in the County,a large attendance is anticipated and all are welcome to attend.. The Donegal Digipeater is up and running on 144.675 with a link for the EI5TCR Cluster. All reports have been excellent and wide coverage of the North West and GI is possible. The Node callsign is EI5TCR-2 with an alias of BARN22. The DTARS Radio Rally will be held in Jacksons Hotel,Ballybofey on Sunday the 13th of November. There is always a large attendance at this rRally with a wide variety of traders present.Those wishing to book tables should contact Gerry,EI8HO at QTHR. The number of call-ins to the Radio News in the North West on Monday and Tuesday has begun to decline over the past few weeks. As the newsreaders take time to read the News on a voluntary basis it is only correct to call in and acknowledge their efforts if this good service is to continue. Congratulations to Larry , EI8DNB on passing the CW examination and receiving the callsign EI8I. LIMERICK RADIO CLUB. -------------------- In association with the Thomond Orienteering Group,eight members of the Limerick Radio Club provided AREN communications for the Annual Burren Walk on Saturday 20th of August. Two hundred and thirty four walkers took part in the walk,over three different course,the longest being 22km. As much of the course was over mountainous terrain it was necessary to ensure that all walkers could be accounted for at the end of the day. Despite the change in weather conditions as the day progressed there was one accident for which medical assistance was required and summoned via the AREN Network. tom Rea , EI2GP and Steve Wright, EI5DD were seen passing through the checkpoints on the 22km course and thoroughly enjoyed an excellent day's walking over very rough countryside. Limerick Radio Club meets on the first Tuesday of each month in the RTC,Moylish at 7:30 pm and on the 6th of October John.EI5EOB,will give an Introduction to Internet aimed at Radio Amateurs. CW classes are given at each Club meeting and they are also provided immediately after the IRTS News for the Limerick area. TWO METER CALL-INS TO CW NEWS. ------------------------------ In an effort to facilitate the B licencees,Tom,EI3HH and Pat,EI9EZ will listen on the Limerick Repeater and the Cork Repeater respectively for B licencees or operators who do not have HF transmitting gear and wish to give a verbal report on the CW News or correct their scripts. These call-ins will take place after the call-ins to the CW News service on 80 Meters have finished. At present,ten have expressed an interest and it is anticipated that more will follow. IRISH lANGUAGE ON AMATEUR RADIO. -------------------------------- A regular Irish Language Net will be held on 80 Meters following the IRTS News call-ins on 3.650. The Net will commence on Sunday the 2nd of November and all are welcome to join the net.
