IRTS RADIO NEWS BULLETIN - Sunday 27th of November 1994 This news bulletin was compiled and edited by Steve Wright, EI5DD, in conjunction with the members of the Galway VHF Group. CORK RADIO CLUB. Members of the Cork Radio Club were treated to a demonstration of PMR Conversion recently. The capable hands (and test equipment) of Con EI7DJB made the task of converting the Pye Europa for amateur use appear so easy to those of a lesser technical leaning. On Monday the 21st the demonstration concluded with the alignment of the transmitting side. With the long winter nights approaching, CRC have decided to buy the fifth tape in the excellent CQ Magazine series "How to get Started". "How To Get Started in Contests" will, no doubt, keep the five and nine brigade happy when it is shown in the near future. The club has been successful in obtaining the callsign EI5IMD for next years International Marconi Day operation and a high level of interest is being shown by members. DUBLIN 70CMS VOICE REPEATER. EI2RTE/P, the Dublin 70 Cms Voice Repeater has been on air since September 1991 and is now fully operational from it's permanent site near junction 1 of the M1 airport motorway, on the north side of Dublin City. The repeater has proved to be very successful as a reliable aid to handheld and mobile communication in the Dublin City centre and county and doubles as a useful beacon for those making or modifying UHF equipment and as a propagation aid. The current service area, for a mobile and hand portable station running 5 watts typically, provides reliable City Centre operation extending as far north as Balbriggan and Dunshaughlin, west to Kilcock and Naas, and South to Bray and Kilmacanogue. In heavily built up areas such as the City Centre and Suburbs, the reflection characteristics of UHF signals provides propagation that is much more reliable when working hand portable or mobile when used in conjunction with a well sited repeater such as EI2RTE/P. This repeater service is provided by the RTE Amateur Radio Club and this facility is available to any Radio Amateur who holds a current licence. The service is intended for priority use by hand portable or mobile stations. Any enquiries or comments and suggestions may be directed to Mike Wright EI2DJ or phoned to the voice mail service at 01-2083973. NO NEWS IS BAD NEWS! SPECIAL THANKS to Anthony EI2HY for the item from CRC and also to Dave Moore EI4BZ for the IRTS newsletter which arrived in time to provide the item on the Dublin 70 cms Repeater. As the postal services are a trifle erratic following the Christmas weekend, it would be appreciated if club PRO's could provide a reasonable summary of their club's activities over the last year which would enable the Radio News Editor to produce a script that could be read over two weekends and cover this period. These items should be sent off by Friday the 16th of December at the latest. ITEMS FOR INCLUSION.
