NCSA Mosaic for Microsoft Windows User's Guide

File Menu

The File menu

The File menu includes the following items:

Open URL...
Pops up a dialog box allowing you to enter the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) of any document that you wish to access. Enter the URL in the URL window and click on OK.
The Open URL window

The Open URL window also provides access to the hotlists, lists of documents and the associated URLs presented in a format that makes it easy to find the desired document. The name of the current hotlist appears in the Current Hotlist field. To select a different hotlist, click on the small arrow to the right of the Current Hotlist field and select the desired hotlist.

If you want to change the current hotlist but do not want to open a new document, change the hotlist in the Current Hotlist field then click on Cancel. The Open URL window will close, but NCSA Mosaic will remember the changed hotlist.

The Current Hotlist field in the Open URL window

The documents named in the current hotlist are available from either of the top two fields in the dialog box. You can select a document by its URL from the left-hand field; you can select a document by its title from the right-hand field. In either case, click on the arrow to the right of the field and drag the cursor to select the desired document.

Once you have selected the desired document title or URL, click on OK to access it.

Open Local File...
Pops up a dialog box allowing you to open a file on your system. This dialog box provides the standard interface used in most Microsoft Windows applications. Select the desired file by traversing the directories and selecting a filename. Click OK and the file will appear in the document view window.

File ... Save saves the currently displayed file to a local disk.

File ... Exit closes the document source window and returns you to the document view window.

Edit ... Copy copies the selected (highlighted) text to the clipboard.
