LA Drum Studio 1.0 Demo ©1994 What is LA Drum Studio? Ê If you want your drum and percussion tracks to sound like they were played by a real drummer or percussionist, then you need LA Drum Studio. It is often difficult to avoid sequenced drum and percussion tracks that have no feel, sound stiff, or that sound like a machine. LA Drum Studio provides tracks that have the human element music needs in order to be esthetically interesting; a characteristic that can be somewhat elusive when creating music within a computer environment. Every LA Drum Studio track was carefully played with attention to the details of expression, dynamics, phrasing, and the overall balance between each instrument. However, editing the notes within each track was kept to a minimum as this usually results in an unrealistic sound. All of the drum and percussion tracks were performed using a Kat DrumKat midi controller, not step-recorded or created through the use of other sequencing techniques. How do I use it? Ê The LA Drum Studio 1.0 Demo was created using the Roland Sound Canvas. It is a standard midi file (type 1) and is set up for any multitimbral sound module that supports the general midi standard. However, if your sound module or drum machine does not support general midi, see the general midi drum kit map for transposing the sounds to the correct midi note numbers for your particular device. (See below) Use the import file command to load the file into your midi sequencer. (If you are not sure how to do this, see your sequencing software manual about loading files saved in the standard midi file format.) Once it is loaded, you will need to set the length of each track (number of bars) so that you can loop them. There are several tracks that are grouped together and these can be used in different combinations. This gives you the ability to orchestrate your rhythm tracks to a degree. Also note that some tracks are in different meters and you should set the meter accordingly. The tracks were recorded at varying tempos and this tempo is documented at the beginning of the track as a reference point. However, if your sequencer does not display text information, print this file and follow the set up chart below. How can I get the complete version? The LA Drum Studio 1.0 Demo contains 20 tracks consisting of drumset grooves and fills as well as several Latin percussion instruments. The complete version of LA Drum Studio 1.0 has 100 tracks and is available in both Macintosh and PC formats. It covers several categories: Funk Swing Latin Percussion Latin Drumset Fills Sequence Applications Sequences Many of the tracks fill a full chorus (32 bars). They vary in length from 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 24, to 32 bars. The 32 bar tracks are musically interesting because they create a musical phrase.
