S3 w/ GENDAC DAC I have the same problem as many others who own S3 video cards with GENDACDACs. SVGA.EXE will lock up the video card. It doesn't matter if it is run in MSDOS, OS2 MDOS full screen; or as part of the Video driver installation process; it just locks up the video card and a hard boot (power off) is required to restore the system. Having read some messages on internet about other people having success getting their system up, I thought I'd try it. The suggestion was to try it under MSDOS. Well, that didn't work for me because it still crashed under MSDOS. Then, I remember having the same problem under WARP II beta. The way I got around it was that I ran SVGA.EXE on a machine w/ a S3 Video card and a RAMDAC DAC, and then copied the SVGADATA.PMI file to the machine with the GENDAC video card. The same works for Warp GA as well. 1) Download the file in the files area: GENDACS3.ZIP 2) Unzip the file and you will find SVGADATA.S3 and OSVGA.EXE (from OS2 2.1). 3) Rename SVGA.EXE in your OS2 directory to WSVGA.EXE 4) Copy OSVGA.EXE to your OS2 directory as SVGA.EXE 5) Run the selective install and choose S3-805 6) The system WILL finish the installtion process because it will not hang when it runs SVGA.EXE (because it's running the OS/2 2.1 SVGA.EXE, which works with the GENDAC DAC.) 7) After the video drivers are installed, copy SVGADATA.S3 to your OS2 directory as SVGADATA.PMI 8) Open up the SYSTEM icon under SYSTEM SETTINGS and select the resolution and refresh rate under the MONITOR tab. 9) Reboot and enjoy.
