PREDICTING A GAME First of all, it is important to remember that CASH is merely a tool. Though the program has been used successfully for several years, the PREDICT options should not be used exclusively to decide the outcome of all contests. Injuries and adverse weather conditions can have profound effects on the outcome of games, and these and other factors must be taken into consideration. An injury to a key player can even be RESPONSIBLE for a team showing up as a "BEST BET" since it can throw the line out of sync with the stats. EXAMPLE: The early line for a game between the Eagles and the Redskins is "Even." CASH is predicting the Eagles will defeat Washington by three points--too close to be considered a "BEST BET." But Randall Cunningham breaks his leg during practice and the line changes to Washington - 3. Now there is a SIX point difference and depending on the "filter" settings CASH would likely recommend taking the Eagles +3. Without their Quarterback, however, the statistical data generated thus far by the Eagles is no longer a good representation of the team's capabilities and a smart handicapper would avoid choosing this game based only on the CASH projection. PREDICTING SCHEDULED GAMES When you click on the Predict Scheduled Game button, or pull down the Predict menu and select the Scheduled Game option, you will see a screen with all the games for that week. Simply click on one of the numbered "Game" buttons to the left of the home and visitor team names to see CASH's prediction. At the top of the Results Screen you will find all the relevant game information: the visiting team, the home team, the Line, and the Over/Under (O/U). Beneath this, you will see the PROJECTED score, the CASH Line, the difference between the CASH line and the actual line, and then the recommendation (if there is one). There is also a spot for the actual score, and the Over/Under data. NOTE: If a particular game would have been a BEST bet but has been ruled out by the "Mon. Night" or "Line 10+" filters you will see an asterisk following the "No Play" recommendation. At the bottom of the Results screen is some historical information about the two teams. This is not used in any of CASH's calculations, but you may find it interesting to see how these teams have performed in the past. Here you will find the year and week the two teams played, the results of the game, and the line and over/under data. PREDICTING ANY TWO TEAMS This feature allows you to predict the results of games not on the regular schedule, which is useful at the end of the season when you are analyzing playoff games, or simply playing out what-if scenarios. (What would happen if Dallas played Denver right now?) When the Choose Teams screen appears you will be prompted to choose the visiting team and then the home team. Select the teams you want by clicking on the team buttons at the top of the screen, then click the OK button to begin the prediction process. Before clicking "OK" if you want to select different teams you may simply click on the option button next to either the Visiting Team or the Home Team, then click on a team name. When you select a Visiting Team, control automatically shifts to the Home Team option.
