PICKING THE WINNERS Weather, injuries, divisional rivalries and a host of other unpredictable circumstances can affect the BEST BET predictions made by CASH. Therefore, we strongly advise everyone to use all the available data before making their final selections for the week. Here is a sample scenario: Jack downloads a copy of the stat file for week 8, unzips it, and copies all the files except "nums.cfg" (he is entering his own lines) into his CASH directory. After entering the lines and loading the data file for week 8 (he is using cumulative stats, not data from the last X weeks), he clicks on the "BEST BETS" button and sees that CASH has selected 4 games: San Francisco -9 versus New Orleans, Denver -7 against the Raiders, Minnesota +5 at Green Bay, and the Broncos/Raiders game OVER 38 points. He makes a print out of this list, then clicks on the "Predict All Games for Week" button. There are a couple of games on the list that were very close to being BEST BETS, so he prints out the list and circles those two games. He also clicks on the games themselves to get more detailed information, and makes print outs for each. He repeats the steps above using "recent" data (from the past five weeks), paying careful attention to the OVER/UNDER picks since CASH did a better job with the Totals using "recent" stats. Now he's ready to get to work, so he grabs the sports page, a pad of paper and a cold beer and starts to pour over the data like a detective. He makes a list of all the games that look interesting, then starts taking notes. The paper tells him that Young is out with an injured shoulder so he crosses the San Francisco game off his list. CASH shows him that the last 3 matchups between the Raiders and Broncos have been decided by 3 points or less, so he puts a question mark by the Denver game. The equal scoring and past performances make him feel good about the OVER on that game, though, so he makes a note of this on his list. CASH also told him to take Minnesota over Green Bay -- that was a bit of a surprise, so he uses the "Analyze Scheduled Game" option to study the matchup. It looks good, and looking at the Packers schedule he discovers that they have been relatively weak at home, so he circles "Minnesota +5". Finally, he studies the teams that showed up as BEST BETS using "recent" weeks, and the teams that were close to being BEST BETS, studying them with the same scrutiny as the other games that were selected.
