OS2WWW - "THE POWER SERVER" - A high performance Web (HTTP) server for OS/2 350% faster than Frankie Fan's Copyright (c) 1995 CompuSource, Cape Town, South Africa. All Rights Reserved Worldwide. NEXT RELEASE DUE MID-JUNE! _________________________ OVERVIEW -------- OS2WWW is an enhanced version of an OS/2 port of the NCSA httpd 1.3 with commonly 350% better performance than existing servers for OS/2, therefore its name "THE POWER SERVER". This is the first beta release of OS2WWW. It requires IBM's TCP/IP for OS/2 Base Kit 2.0 or later with at least CSD64092 applied. It is released to the public domain as freeware for non-commercial use. Please read the copyright file "copyrigh.txt " for details. Commercial users must licence each copy of OS2WWW - contact: Author: Simon Rust e-Mail: source@iaccess.za BETA RELEASE ------------ This version is a beta release, so please address any problem reports and suggestions to Simon Rust at . A new version should be available by mid June, soon after I return from Taligent in California. COMPATIBILITY ------------- I got sick and tired of a never-updated OS2HTTPD with its bugs and performance problems. I rewrote NCSA's HTTPD in desperation. In most instances, OS2WWW is a plug-in replacement for Frankie Fan's OS2HTTPD server with performance improvements of typically 4.5 times faster response (350% better). The more heavily loaded the Web server, the better OS2WWW performs relative to OS2HTTPD. The dramatic speed improvement is achieved through careful optimisation of the original NCSA code and also extensive use of OS/2's multitasking capabilities. Because OS2WWW is still beta release, you should first install OS2HTTPD and then unpack OS2WWW.ZIP into your \OS2HTTPD\BIN directory. Running OS2WWW is then as simple as executing OS2WWW.EXE instead of OS2HTTPD.EXE If you do not execute OS2WWW from the \OS2HTTPD\BIN directory, be sure that \OS2HTTPD\BIN is included in both your PATH and your LIBPATH. I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU, PARTICULARLY IF YOU WANT SHTTP SECURITY ---------------------------------------------------------------- I would like to measure the demand for a package such as OS2WWW, so please send me mail if you use OS2WWW or if you think that it shows promise. This will motivate me to take the product further and post new releases. Post the mail to me. Author: Simon Rust e-Mail: source@iaccess.za Thanks.
