InOut allows people throughout the office to notify a manager or receptionist when they are in the office, and when they are out. By simply double-clicking an icon, a user can notify the necessary party of their status. No more telephone pages for people not in the office, no more buzzing someone at their desk to see if they're in, no more guesswork. Simply check the InOut Viewer to see if someone is in or out, what time they came in or left, and where they went. InOut supports clients on Windows 3.0 or higher, Windows for Workgroups, Windows NT 3.X, Windows95 (Chicago), Macintosh System 7.X, and OS/2 2.0 or higher. InOut is fully network independent. It will run on any network that allows shared directories, or directories that are visible to multiple users simultaneously. The clients need to have read, write, create, delete and file scan rights to the shared directory. InOut can also be installed on a standalone, non-networked computer for demonstration and evaluation purposes. InOut is available in 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, and 500 user versions. All user levels and level-upgrade packs are available directly from WordsPlus Connectivity. See the order form (orderfm.txt) for pricing and ordering information ===================================== [1.0] InOut Installation and Setup ===================================== InOut can be installed on a standalone, or non-networked, computer for evaluation and demonstration purposes. To do this, see section [1.1] below. InOut is fully network independent, and supports clients running Windows, Windows NT, OS/2, and Macintosh. To perform a network installation, see section [1.2] below. [1.1] Installing InOut on a standalone computer ================================================== To install InOut on a standalone computer, do the following; 1) Put the InOut Installation disk in your floppy drive. 2) From Program Mangager, chose "File", then "Run...". In the command line box, type "A:\Setup" and press the OK button. Note that if your B:\ drive is the 3.5" floppy drive on your system, enter "B:\Setup" in the command line box. 3) When the InOut Setup utility appears on your screen, choose to install the InOut Client, the InOut Viewer, and the User Data File. 4) When the InOut Setup utility prompts you for a directory to install the data file, enter "C:\INOUT" or another appropriate directory on your system. 5) After the files are installed on your system, double-click on the InOut Client icon. In the Client Setup window, enter your full name in the User Name box. In the User Data File box, enter the directory you chose in step 4 above, then press the OK button. 6) Next, double-click on the InOut Viewer icon. You will see the username that you entered in step 5 above. For additional information, refer to the Client or Viewer on-line help. [1.2] Network Installation ============================= Installation of InOut in a network environment includes installing the User Data File, the InOut Viewer and the InOut Client. The InOut system should be installed in the following order: User Data File, InOut Viewer, InOut Clients. Each of these steps is described below. [1.2.1] Installing the InOut User Data File ============================================== The InOut User Data File records the status of the InOut Clients. When a user double-clicks on the Client program at his/her workstation, the user's status is updated in the Data File. The InOut Viewer periodically queries the Data File and reports whether a user has checked in or out. To install the InOut User Data File, do the following: 1) Put the InOut Installation disk in your floppy drive. 2) From Program Mangager, chose "File", then "Run...". In the command line box, type "A:\Setup" and press the OK button. Note that if your B:\ drive is the 3.5" floppy drive on your system, enter "B:\Setup" in the command line box. 3) When the InOut Setup utility appears on your screen, choose to install the User Data File only. 4) When the InOut Setup utility prompts you for a network directory to install the data file, enter "F:\INOUT" or another appropriate network directory on your system. IMPORTANT: The directory containing the User Data File must be visible to all InOut users. The Client and Viewer programs need to have read, write, create, delete and file scan rights in the shared directory. If you are unsure of how to do this, see your network administrator. 5) After you have entered the location of the network directory, click the OK button. The User Data File will be installed in the specified directory. [1.2.2] Installing the InOut Viewer ====================================== The InOut Viewer reads the changes that InOut Clients make in the User Data File. The Viewer is usually installed at the receptionist station or at a manager's PC. The User Data File should be installed before the Viewer. If you have not installed the Data File, see the instructions above. To install the Viewer, follow these steps. 1) Put the InOut Installation disk in your floppy drive. 2) From Program Mangager, chose "File", then "Run...". In the command line box, type "A:\Setup" and press the OK button. Note that if your B:\ drive is the 3.5" floppy drive on your system, enter "B:\Setup" in the command line box. 3) When the InOut Setup utility appears on your screen, choose to install the InOut Viewer. 4) When the InOut Setup utility prompts you for a directory to install the Viewer files, enter "C:\INOUT" or another appropriate directory on your system. 5) The first time you run the InOut Viewer, you will be asked for the location of the User Data File. Enter the network drive and directory where the User Data File is located by using the Browse button. After you have entered the location of the network directory, click the OK button. The Viewer will then recognize InOut Clients who are accessing the User Data File. 6) For information on how to modify Viewer settings, delete users, etc. see the Viewer on-line help. [1.2.3] Installing the InOut Client ====================================== The Client updates the User Data File when a user double-clicks on the InOut Client at his/her workstation. Placed in the data file are the current status (in or out), the current date and time, and a user-defined message if the user is out. The User Data File should be installed before the Client. If you have not installed the Data File, see the instructions above. To install the Client, follow these steps. 3) When the InOut Setup utility appears on your screen, choose to install the InOut Client. 4) When the InOut Setup utility prompts you for a directory to install the Viewer files, enter "C:\INOUT" or another appropriate directory on your system. 5) The first time you run the InOut Client, you will be asked to confirm the user name and to provide the location of the User Data File. Enter the network drive and directory where the User Data File is located by using the Browse button. Click the OK button when you are finished. The Client will then be recognized by the InOut system. 6) For information on how to modify Client settings, add "Out" messages, etc. see the Client on-line help. ===================================== [2.0] How InOut Licensing Works ===================================== InOut licensing controls how many clients are recognized by the InOut Viewer. In a network environment, you can install the InOut Client on as many computers as you wish. You can also install the InOut Viewer on as many computers as you wish, but the Viewer will only display information for the number of Clients that your site is licensed to use. To find out what your licensed user level is, look in the About box in either the Client or the Viewer. Next to the version number, you will find what user level you are licensed for. This is the maximum number of users that will be recognized by the InOut Viewer. InOut is available for 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, and 500 users. See the order form (orderfm.txt) for more information. ===================================== [3.0] Administrator Password ===================================== The default Administrator password for the InOut Viewer is "ADMIN". The password is case-sensitive. It is strongly recommended that you change the default password to one of your own choosing as soon as possible after completing the InOut installation. ===================================== [4.0] 30 Day Demo Explanation ===================================== This 5 user version of InOut is offered as a 30 day demo. Full versions of InOut in all user levels are available directly from WordsPlus. See the order form (orderfm.txt) for complete information. ===================================== [5.0] About WordsPlus Connectivity ===================================== Questions, comments, and suggestions about InOut are very much welcomed.
