================================================================ Theme Changer 1.0 for Windows 95 Copyright (C) Swoosie Software 1995 by Mike Henderson and Gary Lucero ================================================================ What do all these terms mean? Microsoft Plus! is an enhancement package for Windows 95. Note that Microsoft Plus! is required for Theme Changer. Themes are a collection of Windows desktop settings that are controlled by the Themes application provided by Microsoft Plus!. For more information, see your Microsoft Plus! documentation. System Agent is an application that allows you to run desired applications at specific times. See your Microsoft Plus! documentation for more information. The Start Menu, Shortcuts and Folders are associated with Windows 95. Please refer to your Windows 95 documentation for more information. The Windows registry is a file where various system and application settings are stored. Please refer to your Windows documentation for more information. The Control Panel is used to alter user settings. Please refer to your Windows documentation for more infomation. ================================================================ What is Theme Changer? Theme Changer is a 32-bit Windows application that changes the current Windows desktop theme each time you run it. ================================================================ How do I set up Theme Changer? Just copy TChanger.exe and TCSetup.exe to a folder on your computer. Create shortcuts for both TChanger.exe and TCSetup.exe in a Start Menu folder of your choice, so that when you need quick access to either of them, they're close at hand. Note that themes do not change very quickly in Windows 95, so it is unlikely you would want to put Theme Changer in your Startup folder. For best results, set up Theme Changer to run periodically (for example, once a week) via System Agent, which is provided in Microsoft Plus!. See your Microsoft Plus! documentation for information on how to setup TChanger.exe to run periodically via System Agent. Also provided is Theme Changer Setup (TCSetup.exe), which allows you to quickly select which desktop items you want to change when a new theme is used. ================================================================ Tips: Since the current version of Microsoft Plus! has only a limited number of themes, in order to provide more variety it is recommended that Theme Changer be run in conjunction with Media Changer 2.0. Media Changer 2.0 is the latest version of the shareware screen saver, wallpaper, and system sound changer that Swoosie Software has recently released. It is available from most common Internet sites and MSN. Try ftp://www.process.com/ftp/pub/win95/mchang20.zip for the current version. Set up both TChanger.exe and MChanger.exe to run automatically via Plus!'s System Agent. Recommended scheduling for these two programs: Media Changer -- At Startup Theme Changer -- Weekly Run Theme Changer Setup, and turn off the options 'Screen saver' and 'Desktop wallpaper'. Choose OK to save those settings. Run Media Changer Setup, and turn off the all of the sound options. Asterisk, Critical Stop, Default, Exclamation, Exit, Question, and Start Windows should all be turned off. Make sure the Wall Paper and Screen Saver options are enabled (checked) and that the paths point to the correct directories. By pointing the Screen Saver path to your System directory, you will be able to use all the available screen savers (those that come standard with Windows 95 and those that came with Plus!). Point the Wall Paper path to wherever you keep a number of wallpaper. Choose the tiling option (Tile checked in order to tile, Tile unchecked in order to not tile) that suits the type of bitmaps you have in that directory. Choose Save to save the current settings, and then Close to close the dialog. It is also recommended that you turn the option 'Stretch desktop wallpaper to fit the screen' ON in the Plus! tab of the Display Properties Control Panel. This way every wallpaper that is loaded with automatically fill the screen, not matter how big or small it is. NOTE: You can also use Media Changer to update your system sounds, but since Theme Changer has more available options (more than just the basic system sounds will be changed) and it does a better job of updating the sounds on the fly, it is recommended that you create custom themes with sound sets that you prefer, and then have Theme Changer change them for you. ================================================================ Error Messages: It is possible (but not likely) that you could encounter error messages when running Theme Changer. Most of these errors will only occur if Microsoft Plus! is not correctly installed. If you suspect this is the case, just run Setup.exe in your Plus! directory. On rare occasions, the Windows registry system will do quirky things and cause error messages in Theme Changer. If you encounter one of these problems, the best thing to do is restart Windows. If the problem persists, contact Gary or Mike (e-mail and snail-mail addresses are listed below), or check your Windows documention. ================================================================ How to Register It: Theme Changer is E-Mail-Ware. It has taken an unbelievable amount of time to design, code, debug, test, enhance, and fix this software. We were even kind enough to make this app free of monetary cost.
