WinGenea Wingenea version 1 creates Family Histories consisting of biographies and trees with the greatest of ease. The tree can be manipulated by dragging any of the people to be placed where you want them and the lines to ancestors and descendants follow. Clicking on any individual will bring up their card showing all the person's details, a picture, notes suitable for biographies, and two customisable fields. When you print the Person's Details for everyone you will have a full family history which gives all their details, photographs and their biographies. The tree makes a nice frontispiece printing as it is shown on screen. Tutorial To start you click on File, New and enter your Family name, you may also enter a motto and include a bitmap of your family crest or shield. Their is also a notes section to describe your family history in brief. The main screen will display an icon bar, if you click on Help then Menu and Toolbar you can get information on each of the icons. I will now describe how to start a simple tree. 1. Click on the blue man and you will then get a blank card to record the first of your relatives, enter the husbands details and finally click on O.K. Repeat this step for the wife and children. Depending on how you have the options set they will either appear on the screen or be under the little down arrow. If the screen is blank click on the down arrow next to the blue figure and a list of people will appear, click on the name you want and holding the mouse key down drag them onto the window. 2. When you have arranged the names on screen as you want them you can then click on the marriage link symbol, two people with an = between them. This will give a list of names for both husband and wife when the down arrow is clicked on, pick the ones you want then click on OK, they will now be shown on screen with an = showing the marriage link. 3. To link in their children click on the blue, pink and yellow group icon which represents a family, the children can then be linked in a similar manner. Once this is completed it will display a dropline from the parents to the children. Using steps 1 - 3 you can build your whole tree. GEDCOM If you have a GEDCOM file from another package, choose the File, Import option, after picking the file, you will then be asked who you wish to organise it on, a sensible choice is either yourself or the subject of the tree, as it does a pedigree search building a tree on screen. Onto this tree can be added brothers and sisters by clicking on the down arrow and dragging their names onto the chart. REGISTRATION WinGenea is a shareware product.
