README.TXT for RT Edit(TM) v1.1 Installation - There is also install information in the User's Manual The distribution file is RTEDIT11.ZIP prepared by PKZIP from PKWARE. Unzip the files to diskette or to a temporary directory on the hard disk. Windows must be running to install RT Edit. Run the Setup File from Windows. One way to do this is to use the Program Manager. Select File | Run, then enter D:\Setup replacing "D" with the disk drive where RT Edit resides or the full path to the RT Edit Files on your hard disk. You will see an introductory prompt. At this point, you may cancel the installation or continue. At several points in the process, you may choose "Exit" to terminate the installation. If you do so, the installation will be incomplete. If you continue, you will then see a default directory. Your may accept the default or change the directory by editing this field. A dialog then provides for your selection of optional items available in the installation. One version of the User's Manual on disk is provided. This file is an ASCII text file, with extension ".prn". You will also see two choices for a group to enter the RT Edit program items. If neither of these is satisfactory, you may setup these items using the Windows Program Manager after the Setup program completes. If there is not enough space on the destination drive, you will see a warning and Setup will terminate. Setup will similarly terminate if your CPU is not an 80386 or better. Notes - RT Edit User's Manual, Version 1.0 page 9 The User's Manual describes the use of arguments within Visual C++ or the Borland IDE. An occasional problem has been reported when using RT Edit this way. There have not yet been problems found when RT Edit is called with no arguments. In this case, the full RT Setup or Save/Restore Environment is used to operate with Identifier Lookup. Also, when RT Edit is exited with save of a file, you may need to close (without saving) and re-open the file in the IDE in order to include the changes made. page 7 Limitations. An additional limitation was omitted. The tab position is fixed at 3 character intervals, but tabs are retained in the text so viewing the file in other tools may allow viewing or printing with other tab values. The problem was that a file of the identifiers recognized was written when "Identifier Lookup" was used in RT Edit. This file was always named "idents.txt" and overwrote any existing file of that name. The content of the file was the set of Identifier names found. This was in error and was corrected. A future version of RT Edit may include an option to write this file.
