AICAP WAV resources: volume 1. ====================== American Indian Computer Art Project 315 Broadway--PO Box 111 Johannesburg CA 93528 619-374-2208 (VOICE) 619-374-2100 (BBS) INTERNET: turtle@aicap.win.net These WAV files are the first in a series of incorporating sounds of Native American music into the computer enviornment. We are using 44 Mhz, at 8 bits: low filter. Recorded using a SONY PROFESSIONAL WALKMAN (excellent) and SOUND BLASTER PRO sound card for the PC (nearly adequate). The sound volume and quality in this type of technology is nowhere as good as your stero system: however, good works all have a beginning. For the average computer system equipped with sound capabilities, these files represent a new step in the communications of tribal peoples with the computer age. While a few of these sounds are recorded from commercial recordings: most are from on-the-spot recording made during actual ceremonies and gatherings: they are not "studio" productions: they are "field" productions. Using the Microsoft SOUND EDITOR which can be activated bt double-click of the mouse on any WAV file via FILE MANAGER will activate the WAV editor and these sounds may be shortened, linked and manipulated in a few other ways. The files are offered as an experiment and comments are invited: not as a "finished" product. The goal of AICAP is the inclusion of interested traditional native peoples in the computer process.
