I have a DX2-66 and run it off of a SB16ASP, humming along at 44.1Khz 16-bit stereo, in the Quality mode. I have a Dell 466M, 8MB RAM, and a PAS16, and if I try more that 39k playback rate (effects or not) under any program, it slows down, and not for lack of processor time: Mod4Win said only 2 or 3% processor time at 39k, but above that everything slows down. I hate to break this to all those with slowdown problems, but if changing to a 16-bit dma channel doesn't help, you have an OPTi chipset, whose 16-bit dma is known to be broken. -- Jim Leonard (trixter@mcs.com) (Trixter of Chromatiks / GRIND / TAP) WWW home page: http://www.mcs.net/~trixter/html/home.html Check out the "PC Demos Explained" WWW page: http://www.mcs.net/~trixter/html/demos.html ----------------- Date: Fri, 20 Jan 95 18:51 EET From: Don Becker Subject: [DMP-TALK:710] Re: A question... Yeah, only my system is a bit worse than yours (386DX/40, 8MB, PAS16). If I want to keep 44.1kHz, I can't use anything more complicated than a filter. If you don't know what is a mod (music module), it is a music file created with a tracker program and it contains all the instruments used in the song.
