FORUM: Private E-Mail HOST: LEADING DATE: Feb-15-95 4:21am MSG: 243 PVT FROM: Digestifier TO: Dbn SUBJECT: Phish Digest #603 úÿ(Continued from last message) If you're new to the net, please send away for the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) file. It will answer a bunch of questions (which are, believe it or not, frequently asked) that you might have. To do so, send a message with the subject "send" and a body "FAQ" to the following mail address: phish-archives@phish.net You can also use this address to ask questions about the list, or to get lots of other neat stuff, like the Lyrics database, the Stories collection, the Interviews file, the Helping Phriendly Book, the Chords file, the Tour Dates file, the Venue file, and the Nettiquette file. If you want help on how to get all of these files from the newly automated archive site (kudos to Lee Silverman), send a message with the subject "help" to the above address. Be sure to use the address listed above. Please, DON'T SEND REQUESTS TO ME! (i.e. don't "reply" to this message if you want the FAQ file) *** GETTING BRIEF PHISHNET INFO *** Another thing you might want to do, if you're new, is send a message to the following address: info@phish.net This will give you an automated reply with general background information on the PhishNet and how to participate. You do not have to specify anything on the subject line or in the message. All mail sent to the above address will be sent the automated reply. *** GETTING ON AND OFF THE PHISHNET *** To be added to or deleted from the Phish Digest mailing list, please send a message to the following mail address: phish-request@phish.net Please use this address only for these purposes, and please DO NOT SEND REQUEST MESSAGES TO THE ENTIRE LIST!!! *** ACCESSING THE PHISH ARCHIVES *** The FAQ file is available for anonymous ftp from archive.phish.net (otherwise known as 128.148.157.6), under the directory /pub/phish/text_files/FAQ. All of the other files mentioned above, and a whole lot more, are also available at this ftp site. You can also get the aforementioned files by gophering to archive.phish.net. Gopher is running on the standard port 70, so you can specify it if you want, but don't need to. If you're not familiar with either gopher or ftp, you'll have to ask your local computer guru. *** WORLD WIDE WEB *** Yes, the PhishNet has a presence on the Web. I think this has actually been around for quite some time, although I believe that it is still under construction. The URL of the home page is: http://netspace.students.brown.edu/phish/ From this page you can also access all of the Phish Archives. If you don't know what the Web is, all I have room to explain here is that it's something you want to get access to. Throw buzzwords like "Netscape", "Mosaic", and the "World Wide Web" at your local computer guru and have them help you out. *** THE HELPING PHRIENDLY BOOK *** The Helping Phriendly Book working group is being led by Dan Shoop who is always looking for pholks to help out on the new editions. Planned editions will include a HyperCard stack (similar to Stack of Dead), WWW accessible versions, and more. If you don't know what the HPB is, READ THE FAQ!!! Comments about the HPB, additions, or if you'd like to volunteer, should be addressed to hpb@archive.phish.net *** (SNAIL-MAIL) PHISH MAILING LIST *** If you would like to be on the mailing list for the Phish newsletter, send your address on a postcard to: Phish Mailing List P. O. Box 219 Lexington, Massachusetts 02173 If you're correcting your address, let them know both the old one and the new one so they can keep their records accurate. *** THE PHISH-INFO MAILING LIST *** A new mailing list, only for the purpose of distributing information, has been activated. This mailing list is moderated; there is someone who determines what is relevant for the list. Relevant postings will include setlists, tour (onsale) information, and venue directions. Among the things will be bounced are ticket grovels, tape requests, follow ups, and general discussion. To subscribe to phish-info, please send email to: phish-info-request@phish.net with the following on a line by itself: subscribe *** TOUR *** Phish is currently on break from tour and will probably not hit the road again until July or August of 1995. When there is more info, it will be summarized here. You can also always request the Tour Dates file from phish-archives or call the Phish Hotline (617-862-7820) for the latest tour information. *** CONCERT TAPING INFORMATION *** Nothing much to report here about taping, since there is no upcoming tour. When appropriate, you can get complete information regarding concert taping by call the Tapers' Hotline at 617-862-2128. Please remember that taping is a privilege granted to us by the band, and not a right. Selling tapes for profit or purchasing bootleg CDs could put the future of taping in jeoprady. Please act responsibly and don't ruin it for the rest of us. Peace and general phishiness. You know the skyeship gondola they have? You know, the fastest small ski lift in the country, anyway, they all have different designs on them and a few have Phishies. ;-) Just sharin', Lane ------------------------------ From: "B.P. Hamilton" Subject: 5/8/77 Ithaca,NY Reply-To: u9309016@muss.cis.mcmaster.ca Date: Tue, 14 Feb 1995 22:55:32 GMT Howdy! I know this isn't Dead bandwidth, but from the number of phish-heads who keep commenting on this show, I just have one thing to say: IT'S OVERRATED! Yes, it *is* a good show. The Scarlet>Fire is excellent, as is the Estimated, Morning Dew, Dancin', and Lazy Lightnin'>Supplication. I tend to think that the show gets a little bogged down during the St. Stephen>NFA>St. Stephen, though. A real good reason why I think this show is overrated is because of the quality of the shows immediately preceding and following it, namely 5/7/77 Boston and 5/9/77 Buffalo. Both are excellent, amking this run a must have for any collection. However, there are other shows which IMHO, are *way* better than any of these three. Try checking out: 2/13/70 2/14/70 5/2/70 2/26/77 7/8/78 10/27/79 .....just to name a few. BTW, in case you are wondering about that 5/8/77: 1. Minglewood Blues is cut on the master tape - you will never find this entire song from that show. 2. Ditto for the big gaping hole in the middle of Lazy Lightnin'>Supplication. 3. That cut off the end of Dancin'? I think that the master is cut, but I once heard a guy say that he had it in its entirety. I was supposed to trade for it, but he disappeared. He may have been full of shit, though. @:= ex-Mitch (the left nostril). ------------------------------ ** FOR YOUR REFERENCE ** Requests to be added to or deleted from the Phish mailing list and requests for old digests to be resent (please provide digest #s) must be sent to phish-request@phish.net. Questions about the list and requests for the current version of the Frequently Asked Questions file, Phish Stories, the Helping Phriendly Book, or the lyrics file must be sent to phish-archives@phish.net.
