I have a question: Does anyone know of any sites containing brass patches? Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers, Dave. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Jan 1995 15:37:33 +0500 From: Robert Coleman Subject: Re: GUS Musician's Digest V12 #12 anybody else out there using the gus as a sampler ? i've been making samples and throwing them into pieces, works quite well if you can filter the input for no aliasing.... i'm always open to new sources of instrument, drum & sfx sounds.... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Jan 1995 11:56:09 GMT From: Clarke Brunt Subject: Re: PATCH CACHING >I am using a GUS together with Wincake as a sequencer. >Patch caching works fine with Wincake for melodic patches. >However, what do I have to do to load a percussion patch (where >each key is assigned to a different instrument) ? If I remember correctly, you have to actually put some notes in the track for the instruments you are going to use, then select the Update Patch Cache option. It must scan the tracks to built up a list of (percussion) notes used. Of course, once you have actually got the piece finished, then you can remove any spurious notes you put in. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Jan 95 23:27 MET From: hst@mh.nl (Klaas Hemstra) Subject: Re: Play Audio CD digitally via GUS > >>CD from my Panasonic 562-B CD-ROM drive using a program >>like READCDA and store the data in a .wav file. Hi, I wrote the synchronization part of READCDA. I think it possible to do what you want. Although the reading proces is time-critical, and on Panasonic drives you don't have DMA or IRQ's to help you, there is some time in which you can issue a DMA request to the GUS, and after reading the next block, start the next DMA operation and start the playing of that previously send block. The panasonic can even read the Digital data at double speed, so with a little buffering you can do some processing too. > >I'm not sure why one might want to do it, except that it >sounds interesting. Someone once put on the net that he succesfully read audio data of a Mitsumi CD-ROM drive using the Corel driver. It is a long-shot, but does anybody reading this has ever heard of anyone reading audio data of a Mitsumi drive ? I would be very interested in hearing of that. >seem to have difficulty in reading the >data as fast as it should be played. Some of them take >several times longer to record the sample than it takes >to play. From the docs, I guess that this is because the >CD keeps having to be re-positioned between each sector >read, rather than reading the data as a continuous stream >(as I assume they do when just playing in Audio mode). That could be a problem, but is because of the programs. Readcda does not do that, it read the data very fast. .. stuff deleted ... > >I guess this post isn't very 'music' related, but I'm just >following up yesterday's item. And it is at Music related isn't it ?
