Are there conversion utilities ? Is it possible to extract the original waves from the GUS patches ? Kind regards, Volker P.S. Thanks to all who have written to me regarding the patch caching problem for percussion patches using Wincake. I am preparing an answer and will place it on this list. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Jan 1995 14:34:13 -0500 (EST) From: Len Moskowitz Subject: Re: Digital Piano Chris Harrop wrote: > How does the best GUS piano patch compare with the piano > sounds in commercial digital pianos ?? I'm loathe to use my computer as my keyboard sound source, but I don't mind using it as a tape recorder. It's just so convenient to sit down at a keyboard and play -- I don't care to wait while it boots and configures. I also don't care to keep my keyboard near my computer. I checked out the options at my local music store. For stand-alone keyboards, the Yamaha PPY-85 and -100 were very nice sounding instruments. They have some stereo space and air to them. The -100 has a great-feeling fully weighted keyboard while the -85 is semi-weighted but still okay. The -85 has a wider range of sounds though -- the Hammond B-3 sound is even usable. They both have midi in and out ports so they can likely be used as controllers and sound sources when the need arises. The -85 is priced well under $1k. I also checked out the Roland A-50 and A-80 master keyboards. The A-80 feels wonderful but gets pricey. The -50 is feels less wonderful and has less keys.
