This version is provided as a demonstration of the game capabilities and provides a fully functioning BACCARAT simulation. Some game enhancements are reserved for those users who find this game to be a worthwhile investment. Shareware is a try before you buy marketing method. If you make regular use of this software, you are expected to "purchase" it by paying the registration fee. As an incentive to register this program, I will send you the newest version of this software complete with all the game enhancements not available in the unregistered copy. These features are listed below. REGISTRATION BENEFITS 1. Your registered version will no longer have registration reminders on screen. 2. Your registered version will save all game information for all players and will recall this information for each new game allowing the player to continue a game started in a previous session. 3. Your registered version will save the last game speed and chip value you used. New games will start with your game speed and chip value loaded. 4. Your registered version will allow up to 6 "Human" players to play at one time. Any seats not occupied by a human will be filled in by computer generated players. The unregistered version allows only one "Human" player to play at a time. 5. Sound Blaster support is provided. If you have a Sound Blaster or 100% compatible system, you can order the optional voice pack for this game. These files will allow you to hear digital recordings of the words seen in the talk balloons. This provides for a more realistic and entertain- ing game. NOTE: When all voice files are decompressed to your hard disk, they will occupy nearly 1 mega byte of space. 6. Registered users can order additional "ULTIMATE" games at a 20% discount. GAME START UP The game is started by typing "BACCARAT" after being properly installed. COMMAND LINE OPTIONS The following letters may be included on the command line when invoking the program to provide the following results. /D D or DEMO --- Starts the game in the Demo mode. Push F-1 to end the Demo. /S S or SILENT - Starts the game without the Sound Blaster selected. /F F OR FAST --- Starts the game with game speed set to 20. /T T OR TUTOR -- Starts the game with the tutor selected. /L L OR LOSEONTIE -- The game rules are changed so that bets on Player or Banker lose to the house if the results of the hand is a tie. Normal rules make this situation a push and neither Player or Banker bets win or lose. NOTE: These command line options may be combined if desired. PLAYING THE GAME The information provided below applies to the registered version of this game. Some features are reserved for registered users. See Registration benefits above for a list of these features. Follow the prompts to sign in. Up to 6 "HUMAN" players may play at the same time. If less than 6 "HUMANS" will play, up to 3 computer players will fill in the empty seats. The first step is for each player to place a bet. The player's name (who is next in line to place a bet) will flash until his bet is placed. The letter in () for each menu category may be used from the keyboard to access that menu item. If in a sub menu, the first letter of the menu item will activate that menu event. Buttons on a menu will not be present for a category that is N/A at that time. For instance, the (P)ush last bet category will only have a button next to it if the previous bet round was won. Escape will exit from the present menu to the invoking menu. If in the MAIN MENU, pushing Escape will produce the same results as select- ing the QUIT button. MAIN MENU Bet P(L)ayers --- implements the PLAYER bet. Bet B(A)nkers --- implements the BANKER bet. Bet T(I)e --- implements the TIE bet. NOTE: The chip value and as a result the range of bets available can be changed when in any of the 3 above menus. Increase the chip value (bet amounts) by moving the hand pointer to the plus (+) button at the top of the menu. Push the left mouse button to increase the chip value in $5.00 increments with each mouse button push. Push the right mouse button to change the chip value at a faster pace. Move the hand pointer to the minus (-) key to decrease the chip value as above. You may use the + and - keys on your keyboard to produce the same results as moving your hand pointer to the + or - button and pressing the right mouse button. (R)epeat Last --- Allows the better to repeat his last bet. No button for this selection until an initial bet has been made. (P)ush Last Win - Allows the better to press his last bet plus winnings for the next bet. No button for this selection unless the better's last bet was a winner. (C)hip Value ---- Allows the better to select the value of the smallest chip. The chip value is adjustable from $10 to $200. Possible bets range from this chip value to 5 x this chip value. The chip value can also be changed when placing a bet to allow for the full range of possible bets. (G)ame Speed ---- Game speed ranges from 1 to 25. Higher values equal faster games. If a sound blaster is found by the game, it will be disabled at settings above 20 and must be reselected through the options menu after the game speed has been reduced to 20 or below. (O)ptions ------- Opens the options menu. OPTIONS MENU (P)ass Shoe ----- Allows the better who is the BANKER to pass the bank (shoe) if he/she so desires. (B)accarat Info - Provides general information concerning Baccarat, Commissions, Game Play and Payoffs. If NEXT is selected, a table of RULES GOVERNING CARD DRAWS is displayed. The unregistered version of this program has 2 additional pages of information concerning regis- tration information. A registration form may be printed out while in the first 2 pages of this menu item. (T)utor --------- This selection can be toggled on/off. When On (button down), the large curtain in the center of the game screen drops down from the top and the player will be provided with an explanation of the game as it proceeds. Each step in the game play will be explained. To move to the next step one need only push a mouse or keyboard key. Once the player no longer needs the TUTOR, he/she can toggle toggle it off. (S)tats --------- Shows game statistics for each player at the table. (R)esults ------- When selected (button down), the large curtain in the center of the game screen drops down from the top and the player is provided with a listing of all players, their last bet and the results of the round. NOTE: this will happen at the end of the round regardless of the status of the Results button. When Results is selected, the results screen stays in view throughout the game (unless the TUTOR is also selected). If not selected, it will be moved out of view when the cards are played. (M)ouse --------- This selection allows adjustment of the mouse sensitivity. (V)oice --------- When selected (button down), the talk seen in the dealers talk balloons will be annunciated by the sound blaster (provided one is available and the optional Voice Pack has been ordered). This selection can be toggled On/Off. If the game speed is increased above 20 the sound blaster is disabled. (E)xit ---------- Exits the Options menu back to the Main Menu. GAME LIMITATIONS 1. Commissions will be rounded to the nearest dollar amount if an odd bet amount is being used. USE WITH WINDOWS 1. This product was not written specifically for windows compatibility, but in most cases it can be used from WINDOWS 3.1. Compatibility with WINDOWS is not guaranteed. To use this product from windows perform the following...... a. Install the program normally from DOS. Make note of the drive and directory on which you installed the program. b. Start Windows. Bring up the Program Manager. NOTE: If you want to place this file into an existing Program Group, select the program group you want this program to fit into and skip to step f. c. Click on File then click New. d. Select Program Group then click the OK button. e. In Description enter "GAMBLERS", then click the OK button. f. Click File from the Program Manager, then click New. g. Select Program Item then click the OK button. h. In the Program Item Properties box enter the following. Description : "ULTIMATE BACCARAT". Command Line : "BACCARAT.EXE" Working Directory: (enter the drive and directory as noted in A above. EXAMPLE: "d:\baccarat" i. Click Change Icon button then click the next OK button. j. In the File Name block enter "(drive and directory as noted in A above plus "\BAC.ICO"), then push the OK button. EXAMPLE: "d:\baccarat\bac.ico". k. You should see the BACCARAT icon appear as the Program Item Properties dialoge box reappears. Push the OK button and you are now done. NOTE: If you have a sound blaster, insure the proper driver is installed through the Windows Control Panel. You may have to adjust the DMA buffer. If you receive a windows error message advising you to adjust the DMA buffer, use an ASCII text editor to add the following line to the [386Enh] section or your windows "system.ini" file.
