* System Shock - Level 3 Tips * * Your first visit to level 3 is a mercifully short one. When your elevator opens, you want to dash through to the elevator you see. That elevator will take you to level 6. Watch out for movement; if needed, shut the elevator (from level 2) door and heal/save. As you head up to level 6, you wonder what that was. The floor seemed to ripple in one spot... ___________________________________________________________________________ * Your Second Visit to Level 3 * You have, if following the plot, been to level 6. You have entered the three remaining groves and pressed the enable switch in each. You were going to use the master jettison enable in Edward Deigo's quarters, and then jettison the Beta grove. But a warning tells you of a problem on level 3 (a relay has failed) and you must go down and fix things. Your goals on level 3 are: 1) Go to the maintainance office. This is in the southeast corner, by the elevator to level 2. a) do the maintainance bots and the CPU tower. b) record the single digit (and the level it is from) on the screen. c) check the shelf across from the cabinets. There should be a log there. It will give you the problem relay number. e) Later, after you have done the rest of the level, the other door in that office will unlock if you have done the CPU and cameras. You will need the head from the Delta area, from the north end of the long jagged room by the headlamp. The head will get you past the retinal scanner. Do the waiters, get the level 2 biosuit, and open the two rooms (one hidden) for the stuff there. 2) You should go to the relay analyzer and give it the relay number. Note that even if you know where the relay is, you must still do the other maintainance areas to get the cameras. And you wouldn't want to let down all of those waiting sec1bots. 3) You must go and get (1) interface demodulator. These are found, with a bunch of goodies, up a repulsar lift in the east area outside of the Beta maintainance area. 4) You must find the appropriate spot and use the interface demodulator. 5) Having done that, make sure you sweep the level for cameras. When you are at a low level of security, the door in the maintainance area will open (see 1/d above) - General Tips - The level has one big problem; it is crawling with invisible mutants. They appear everywhere except in the labeled maintainance areas, and you won't see them in the maintainance office. These things are very hard to see, and they are hard to kill. They seem to regenerate as well, meaning you can never kill all of them. To kill them, some players swear by a weapon you can find on this level. That is the laser rapier. I personally don't like it, as it is only good at close range. For those who want to try it and can't find it, I show its position on the map. You must step into a hole and take a ladder up to a high duct to get to it. The flechette or the magnum will do the job, and the ion rifle (from Alpha grove, off level 6) works very well. In the center of the level is a room with a freight elevator. There are always invisible mutants in here; kill all, step out, and they're back. You don't need to go in this room. If you do go in, there is a switch low on the south wall, west of the door, that will raise the pillar and allow access to some concussion bombs. I avoided using that freight elevator to or from level 3 because of the mutants always being there. It goes to levels 4 and 5. The alternate route to those levels is up to level 6, down to level 5, and take that freight elevator to level 4. There are lots of weapons and ammo to be found on this level. In each of the maintainance levels is a different weapon. In Alpha is the assault rifle. In Beta is a flechette. Delta has a rail gun (NOT my favorite weapon) and Gamma has a magpulse. Ammo for each should be found close by. There is another magnum on this level; see the map. The real prize, though, is the assault rifle in Alpha maintainance area. When loaded with penetrator clips (rare), this is the hardest hitting weapon on the station. With the magnesium tip ammo, it is still a great weapon; it will kill a sec1bot or sec2bot in fewer shots than a magnum loaded with heavy slug ammo. Interestingly, the assault rifle refires a bit slower than the magnum, and the clip holds 10 magnesium shells compared to the magnum's 12. This makes them about equal, except you can always load a penetrator clip with the assault rifle if you are in a tough spot (cyborg enforcer, sec2bot.) When you have finished the level, head back to level 6 to finally do the Beta grove.
