-=MAJESTY SOFTWARE CORPORATION=- Welcome to Pixel Painter Version 1.0! We have created this so all you QBASIC programmers can have a break from typing DRAW and other graphics statements. Now, instead of that, you can just draw away, and it will auto- matically create DRAW statements in a file you specify. Once you are done, you can just enter that file and voila! You just copy them and put them in your QBASIC program. From now on in this document, you will read how to use Pixel Painter to your advantage. STARTING UP Click on FILE in the menu bar, then OPEN once you are in QBASIC. Look for the file PIXELV1.BAS. Once you find it, highlight it and press enter or double-click on it. Once the file is loaded, press F5 to start it. You will see a title screen created by the program. Press any key. Then the screen will prompt you for a filename, which can be no longer than 12 characters. Input even the extension. If you type "exit", the program will end. The filename you input will be created by QBASIC. Whenever you move the cursor or paint, it will send DRAW statements to this file. STARTING YOUR DRAWING After you specify the filename, your computer prompts you to use the arrow keys to move the tiny cursor around and press the SPACE BAR. Wherever you press the SPACE BAR is where your drawing will begin. After you have pressed the SPACE BAR, the pixel cursor will disappear. Don't worry - it's just black. COLORING You can move the cursor around now, but it will just be black and take up space in your file. To change color, press a number key. There are two palettes of colors. To change the palette back and forth, press TAB. Then press a number key. The colors are the following palettes and numbers: Palette Number Color Number Color Name 1 0 Black 1 1 Blue 1 2 Green 1 3 Cyan 1 4 Red 1 5 Purple 1 6 Brown 1 7 Light Gray 1 8 Dark Gray 1 9 Light Blue 2 0 Light Green 2 1 Light Cyan 2 2 Light Red 2 3 Light Purple 2 4 Yellow 2 5 White MOVING THE CURSOR To move the cursor, you use the arrow keys. When you move, you leave a pixel of the current color behind the cursor, thus you are "drawing". So, if the color is green, and you move up by pressing the Up Arrow Key, a green dot will be left where you were before you moved up. Normally, when you move the pixel cursor, it moves in increments of 1. But, if your drawing is going to have pretty long lines, we've put in a feature that let's you save space. By pressing the + key, the increment will increase by 1, until you've pressed it 4 times, and then pressing it again will make your lines 10 pixels long. Be warned, though, don't press + past the 10 pixel lines, or else it won't work until you press -. Now, guess what - does. Yep. It takes away increments, but just like the + key, don't press it past 1 pixel lines. MOVING WITHOUT DRAWING By now you can probably make a great picture, but you are just trying to move the cursor without drawing. You poor fellows out there are probably changing the color to 0 and moving along. But that takes up so much space! What if you are on the bottom right-hand corner, and you need to paint in the upper-left hand corner? Even using 10 pixel lines in color 0 would take up a bunch of space! So we at Majesty decided to give you this special feature. To do it, press the SPACE BAR. A flashing yellow dot will appear in the middle of the screen. Move it around. Even though it looks like it is painting yellow over everything, just move it to the place you want to move to and press the space bar again. Voila! Now move the pixel cursor! FILLING Okay. We've taught you just about everything. Now for the best tool. Filling! Some people think to fill in this program you have to move the cursor around everywhere. Then they see you, the educated Pixel Artist press the F key, type in the color number of the border around the area they want to fill, and make it fill up with the current color. They're dumbfounded. Well, that's the end of this document. We at Majesty hope you QBASIC programmers make some pretty good graphics with this program.
