Resetting QUIZZER When you first use QUIZZER, you select either a color or monochrome display. You need not set it again; however, if you change monitors and wish to reset the display type, delete the file named QZR.MEM. This file controls the display type in use. All these files have an .NTX extension. These file can be deleted after each game. If they are not found the next time QUIZZER is used, they will be recreated. The program is menu-driven and simple to use. Just place it, along with the files QZRGAME.DAT and QZRGAME.NTX, in the same directory and run Quizzer Question Editor by entering "QEDIT" at the DOS prompt. That's all there is to it! After the title screen, you have the option of selecting a category. This is an opportunity to restrict the type of questions to a particular category. If you don't want to do this, just choose "All Categories". Even if you choose to limit the records you will view, you can still add new questions to any category you wish. After selecting a category, the program calls up the first question in that category and displays it and a viewing menu at the bottom of the screen. From here, you can move forward or backwards through the questions, editing any that you choose. If you try to back up past the first record, the program will take you to the last question, and vice versa. You can delete questions you don't like or make up new ones and add them. When you delete a record, the word "Deleted" will appear above the menu bar, however, the record won't actually be erased until you leave the program. This delay gives you the opportunity to change your mind and restore a deleted question by viewing it and selecting "Delete" again. To add a new question, choose "Add" from the menu. You will be asked to choose a question type and category for your new question. Once you have done that, you will see an editing screen and can enter the question. When adding a new question or editing an existing one, just fill in the blanks...the editor won't let you enter answers that won't work for the type of question you are working on. For example, a True/False question has no answer text and must have an answer of "T" or "F". A multiple choice question has four lines of answer text; one for each choice. These must be an answer that corresponds to the correct answer. Text-entry short-answer questions have only one line of answer text; the text must be typed in to answer the question correctly. A word about short-answer questions: People have many different ways of saying the same thing. If you want someone to correctly answer your short-answer questions, be careful how you ask them. A fill-in-the-blank approach such as, "The substance known in science as the universal solvent is ______.", is a good question because it limits the number of likely responses. If you ask an open ended question such as, "What is the oldest living species on Earth?", the responses could vary a great deal. You don't want the player guessing how to phrase the answer. If you make a mistake editing a question or decide you would rather leave it alone, hit and the original question will be restored. You can also abort the addition of a new record by hitting . When you want to change to a different category, select "Quit" or press at the Viewing Menu and you will go back to the Category Menu. Hitting from here will take you back to the Title Screen, and pressing once more will take you out of the program. ^C^1******* End of Instructions *******^0
